New live music listings on The Hampton Society website

I was contacted by member Judy Morrison requesting an live music listing on the website to promote the Middlesex Yeomanry Concert Band and any other music of interest.

You will now find a new section of The Hampton Society website home page that lists live music and events over the next few months including the upcoming fundraising Hampton Pool Summer Picnic Concerts which begin on Friday.

Society talk by John Sheaf:
Hampton in the ’70s & ’80s talk

We have a great talk lined up at St Mary’s community hall next Thursday. John Sheaf will be speaking about his latest book – Images of Hampton in the 1970s and 1980s. Lots of tales, great pictures and he will be selling copies of his books.

Derek and Mary May will be running our refreshments bar where you can enjoy a drink and socialise with other Soiety members before the talk and during the interval.

I hope as many of our members can attend as I know it will be a fascinating insight into how Hampton has changed since then.

Thursday, 14 July at 7.30pm for 8.00pm at St Mary’s community hall.

‘Crazy for You’ Arts Richmond Theatre Trip

Thursday 21 August at 2.30pm

Member Janet Langhorne who is also Showcoach Organiser for Arts Richmond has asked if I could notify members of their upcoming theatre trip. Janet writes:

“We have a few tickets left and we would be delighted if any of The Hampton Society members would like to join us for the day.

“Join us for our annual visit to the Chichester Festival Theatre on Thursday 21 July at 2.30pm to see ‘Crazy for You’, with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin.

“This is the story of theatre mad Bobby Child (played by Charlie Stemp of Half a Sixpence fame from 2016!) torn between his rich, demanding New York fiancée and his rich demanding mother who wants him to run the family bank. Reluctantly he heads to the bygone mining town of Deadlock, Nevada, to foreclose on a mortgage.

“There he finds the mortgage in question is on a dilapidated Victorian theatre and the owner’s daughter Polly is the girl of his dreams. To prove his good faith and win her love, Bobby lights on the idea of putting on a show- complete with glamorous dancers from New York’s Follies – to save the theatre and renew the town.

“This hilarious, riotously entertaining musical is packed with glorious Gershwin melodies incl. Someone to Watch Over Me, Embraceable You, I Got Rhythm and They Can’t Take That Away from Me, with stunning tap dance routines guaranteed to set the spirits soaring.”

Ticket price of £63 includes coach and ticket for the theatre.

Invitation to the 2022 Hampton & Molesey Riverside Trust AGM

Tuesday 2 August

Our Annual General Meeting will be held at Garrick’s Temple and Lawn on Tuesday 2 August, starting at 7.30pm.  Once the evening’s brief business is concluded, Rebecca Kendrick from the Thames Landscape Strategy will talk about rewilding plans for the area.

Everyone is welcome and you can join at the door for only £5.

There will be refreshments during the course of the evening – and we’re hoping for a fine evening to fully enjoy the lovely riverside setting.

A new ‘Friends’ group for Nursery Green, Hampton

I have been contacted by Daija Angeli from Habitats & Heritage, the local charity that acts for the natural and historic environment and climate in south and west London about a new initiative in Hampton. Daija writes:

“Habitats & Heritage is supporting residents to set up a new “Friends” group for Nursery Green, Hampton. Friends of Parks groups play a vital role in protecting and enhancing local parks, play areas, woodlands, and green spaces in Richmond upon Thames. Working in partnership with the council, they give residents a greater say in what goes on in their local park.

“An important aspect of a Friends group is an elected committee. If there is sufficient interest, we hope to be able to do this. If not, we will keep working with the interested people and continue to attract new people.”

Police update

Spring Booster Programme: Have you had a top-up booster vaccination?

We are urging those eligible for a spring booster but yet to come forward to take up the offer as soon as possible. The spring dose will not only give you and your loved ones protection this summer amid rising infection levels, but also allow you to get a vaccine this autumn at the right time to maximise your protection over winter. 
 
A top up spring booster vaccine is available for anyone who;  

• is aged over 75 
• is aged 12 or over and living with a weakened immune system 
• lives in a care home for older people. 

 You can have your spring booster if it's been at least 3 months since you had your 2nd dose, booster dose or additional primary dose (3rd dose) if you have a severely weakened immune system. 
 
If you are eligible, you can book your appointment now on NHS.uk/covid-booster, by calling 119 or you can find your nearest walk-in centre here.  

Covid-19 vaccination for 5-11 year olds 
All children 5 or older, are eligible for a 1^st and 2^nd dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.  
  
By getting vaccinated, children and young people can reduce the risk of passing on the infection to others in their family and others. The vaccine will also make it easier for children and young people to avoid putting their lives and their education on hold because of further disruption to schools, hobbies and social events due to the virus.  
 
Children can get vaccinated alongside family members at many of our sites across South West London. Our clinicians and staff are trained to ensure children feel comfortable and at ease when receiving their vaccine.  
 
Those that had their first dose 3 months ago or more are also now eligible for their second dose.  
   
You’ll be able to get your child vaccinated at a site and time convenient for you – at vaccination centres, pharmacies and GPs offering jabs for this age group. Find the latest walk in times here or alternatively you can book an appointment now on NHS.uk/covid-booster
