Awards/Highlights
A few years ago, I was able to help restore the Southern Council of AAHIM. We had been without a local council for several years.
Something Surprising to Know About Me
I volunteer for the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
How Did I Get Into HIM?
I was interested in healthcare, but not the clinical side. I applied for a job at a local hospital in the HIM Department and decided that I really liked this field. I ended up doing several other jobs in the department before I ended up in Coding.
Professional Advice

Pharmacokinetic drug dosing models don't apply well to certain patient populations, such as those with certain gene variants or spinal cord injuries, but research suggests machine learning could fill the gap. ML uses patient-specific data and results as inputs, enabling programs to "learn" new rules and predict optimal dosing, and health information management professionals are key to ensuring data is valid and up to date, write AHIMA Fellow Shannon Houser and Pharmacist R. Jeffrey Harris.
