Susan Folwell: "Water: Vessel"
New Works in Clay
July 9th, 2022, 1–3 pm
I'm pleased to have Susan Folwell (Santa Clara Pueblo) in the Santa Fe gallery this Saturday afternoon 1-3 pm, with new works in clay. 'Water: Vessel' explores the importance of water to Pueblo culture and life. The designs reflect rain-bringing clouds, rivers, water, and water carriers. Each piece has an inherent beauty that ties it to the artist and nature.
Additional events in July feature;
- Saturday, July 16, 1–3 pm, Jared Tso (Navajo) - Pottery Demonstration & New Additions.
- Friday, July 29th, from 4–6 pm, Andrea Vargas, 'Cielos de Arrobol,' a new series of paintings on canvas.
- Friday, July 29th, from 4–6 pm, Arthur Lopez, 'Pillars of Strength,' Santos Carvings.

We are busily preparing for the events surrounding the 100th anniversary of the Santa Fe Indian Market. Our annual show will be Friday, August 19th, from 3–5 pm. Mark your calendars! We have almost 20 artists here for the show! It is going to be a busy summer!
I want to thank everyone for their continued support of the gallery and the gallery artists over the past year. It has made a difference for us through an uncertain time. It has shown us the importance of connections in tenuous times. I also think it speaks to the value of art in our lives. Please continue to stay well, safe, and healthy.
Each day we will continue to add our New Additions to the website. I hope you continue to enjoy it!
You can check out Instagram and Facebook for more frequent updates.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Susan and I discussed the direction of her work for this show. She had some fascinating insights. "I began working on vessels that would hold water or with water themes. All the fires in New Mexico this summer made me even more conscious of the importance of the water theme. The clay, water, and designs with raincloud or puddles felt more connected to the moment. Just as I was finishing the last piece, it began to rain throughout the area, and, as they say, pottery is a prayer."
