Upcoming Training
September 20th (SJI), 22nd (Orcas), and 23rd (Lopez)

Registration Now Open for Fall Training

In an effort to move our training out of the classroom and into the field, IOSA will be hosting hands-on training in September to build basic response skills. The focus will be on an accurate, useful, and safe initial assessment, followed by practicing some simple containment and protection strategies.

Training will be approximately 6 hours long, and we'll hold a session on San Juan, Orcas, and Lopez Islands. You should only sign up for one.

You may register online here, and details are below. Email paulh@iosaonline.org if you have questions. Thank you!

What:

These hands-on exercises are designed to give volunteers the basic skills needed to perform a safe, appropriate, and useful scene assessment and to gain hands-on experience with initial containment strategies. The focus will be on a shore or dock-based response.

This class will be held outdoors, rain or shine and students will be required to exert themselves physically on terrain with steep and/or uneven footing. Some snacks will be provided, but students should bring their own lunch.

Who should attend: This training is intended primarily for existing IOSA volunteers, with a preference given to those who have their 24hr certification. Those with their 8hr certification or who are new to IOSA may be admitted is space is available. All IOSA volunteers should be physically fit, able to work for long periods outside in inclement weather, be able to work and move in and around boats, and should enjoy working as part of a team.
