Fall Catalog:
How do you want to receive yours?

Our fall catalog is currently in the layout and proofreading phase, and will head to the printer soon.

On June 30, we emailed all active contacts in our current registration system letting you know what we have on file as your current catalog preference. Please do not respond unless you want to make a change. Sorting through hundreds of emails that just say "thanks" really slows us down. :)

Here are the options:
  •   Mail my catalog to my primary address.
  •   I'll pick up my catalog at the OLLI office (we'll notify you when it's ready, around Aug. 1)
  •   I don't want a paper catalog; I'll view it online (we'll send you a link when it's ready)

Registration System Change

UAF-OLLI is migrating to a new online registration vendor with the goal of ending the extreme computer slow-downs and other problems we have with our current system. We will go live with the new site in mid-August for our fall 2022 registration.
The new system will allow us to return to a lottery to assign high-demand courses. If demand exceeds the number of seats for a course, the computer will assign those seats by lottery based on your priority rankings. For example: Suppose enrollment in the course is limited to 12. If 15 people list that course as their first choice, only those 15 people will be put into the lottery for the 12 available seats. If only 10 people list it as their first choice, all 10 would automatically get in and a lottery for the two remaining seats would be run from those who listed that course as their 2nd choice.
As usual, OLLI staff and/or volunteers will enter registration requests for members who cannot or prefer not to use the computer to register themselves.

REGISTRATION TIMELINE:
Aug. 15 - 22: Submit registration requests (either online or to OLLI staff)
Aug. 23 & 24: Lotteries run (registration paused)
Aug. 25 onward: Immediate enrollment available for all unfilled seats

Host Alabama OLLI Visitors for Dinner in Your Home
and raise money for our OLLI!
SUNDAY August 14*
(*note date has changed by one day)

A group from OLLI at University of Alabama - Huntsville will be visiting Alaska this summer. We need UAF-OLLI volunteers to host 2 - 4 visitors each in your homes for dinner the evening of Sunday August 14. Hosts will need to pick the visitors up at their hotel in Fairbanks and return them to the hotel after dinner.
We've done this in the past and it's been a win-win. Visitors love the chance to meet "real" Alaskans, see our homes, and share conversation and a meal. (Alaskan foods like salmon, moose, wild berries and garden vegetables are appreciated, but not required. The meal doesn't have to be fancy.) As a thank-you, the Huntsville OLLI group will make a donation to UAF-OLLI, so our volunteer hosts are also helping raise money for our OLLI.
Contact the OLLI office to volunteer.

Guys/Gals Read Presentation
Oct. 10, 12:15 - 1:30
FREE; membership not required

Guys Read Gals Read needs your help! Interest in reading wanes at the 4th grade so GRGR brings adult readers into the 4th grade lunch time to read a graphic novel excerpt to provide a role model and encouragement. It’s a ~20min lunch time commitment. Reading via a zoom recording is also an option.  All it takes is a willingness to read and a few minutes at lunch. The presentation on Oct. 10 will discuss more but interested folks could get lined up for school’s start now! Contact  Bud Kuenzli at 907-590-1472 for more information. https://guysgalsread.org/
