I have vivid childhood memories of time seeming to be almost endless. The older I get, the faster time seems to slip through my memory, and I suppose that is only natural given that each day I am lucky to be alive is a smaller fraction of my overall lifespan. Which is a very wordy lead up to say: whew, we are already over halfway through 2022?!?
I welcome you to take this opportunity to look back and reflect on your year as well, even if you did not join the original #2022PlanningParty link up.

2022 Mid Year Review
I shared my look back at the year so far today, and the summary is that I've done pretty well, but there is a goal that I am setting aside from now. My focus for the next month or two is going to have to be on some big life things, which I'll be able to share more about soon. I'm trying to be in the moment and present as much as possible right now.

The Melodic Mystery Quilt Along started on July 7th! This is a free monthly quilt along hosted by Cheryl Brickey of Meadow Mist Designs (her eighth annual mystery quilt). Instructions are posted to the Meadow Mist Designs blog on the first Thursday of each month with a reveal parade with tons of prizes in the spring. There is an active Facebook group to quilt along with and even a sneak peek option for those who would rather the design not be a mystery. Visit the Melodic Mystery page for more information about the quilt along, schedule, sponsors (note: Quilting Jetgirl is a sponsor) & prizes, Facebook group, and un-mystery option.
Are you going to participate in the Melodic Mystery quilt along?

National Sewing Month Blog Hop
|
|
September is National Sewing Month and Brenda from Songbird Designs and Melva from Melva Loves Scraps are planning some fun events to take place throughout National Sewing Month. They will be hosting a blog hop with the theme “Get on board with sewing” as well as a photo challenge on Instagram.
A blog hop, if you are not familiar, is like a "show and tell" online. All you need to do is sew something that ties into the theme and then write about it: Your “something” could have a tropical or surf feel. It can be clothing, a quilt, a bag, a toy, or whatever you choose! it might include some tropical themed fabric or novelty print… or not. Readers enjoy hearing about the inspiration of a project, how you made it and they always like to see pictures.
You have about a month and a half to sew something and join in on the fun.

Last month on Aurifil's Auribuzz blog, I shared some of my top tips for quilting, so that you can confidently quilt your next quilting project. I currently do my quilting on my domestic Juki TL-2200 QVP Mini, and I almost always use coordinating 50wt Aurifil thread.

Digital Wave Table Runner & Scrap Placemats & Mug Rugs
|
|
After mocking up several of my older quilt patterns in red, white or cream, and blue at the end of May, I couldn't get the mocked up version of Digital Wave out of my mind. After finishing and releasing Meringue / Garden Peony, I finally had my chance to dig around in my stash and see what I could make. I had enough fabric to make a downsized version of Digital Wave and I turned it into a ~12" x 48" table runner. I also updated the Digital Wave pattern in my shop to now also include an addendum that has yardage and instructions for the table runner size AND I went back in my records and emailed the addendum to everyone who had previously purchased the pattern.
|
|
After finishing the table runner, I was able to just eek out 2 coordinating placemats and mug rugs.
I am not really a scrap quilter, but I have been putting a lot of thought into my fabric selections, choices, and uses. While I may prefer to work with yardage for the majority of my projects, I'm trying to immediately put the extra fabric in a project so that it can be fully used. Sometimes, there will be enough left over that I can add back to my stash. My current solution is to offering bonus patterns for the large scraps in my quilt patterns and making coordinating items like these placemats and my mug rugs. So, be prepared for me to continue to wrestle with the use of my leftovers after each project. And if you have any suggestions for projects you turn to, please share them with us all in the comments!

@candace.quilts just finished quilting and binding her Planview quilt that she pieced during the quilt along. You know I'm a sucker for a beautiful monochromatic quilt and these purples are luscious together! 💜💜💜

I will be taking a social media break from July 23 - August 7th. I will still be working as a technical editor, but just taking a few weeks to stop the endless scrolling. And stay tuned, on August 8th I have an awesome blog post full of lots of tips and tricks that I'm excited to share!
I hope you are happy, healthy, and doing well. Happy quilting!
