July 4th is a highly revered holiday, representing the independence of America from British rule. Since the first commemoration in 1777, it has morphed into a major celebration -- from family gatherings to community parades and concerts.
One lesson to be remembered on July 4th is that freedom is not free. It takes intentional and tireless hard work. Here at American Baptist College, our students have learned and implemented the work that is required for the cause of freedom.
From the establishment of the College in 1924 until this very moment, ABC has stood in solidarity for freedom. Veterans came home from fighting abroad, yet could not be treated fairly in their home country. They fought for freedom. Citizens could not have equal access to basic needs. They fought for freedom. Black Americans could not vote. Students at ABC and others joined in the fight for that right.
Today, the fight for freedom continues. Students from American Baptist College are learning the struggle happens every day -- in the classroom, in their living spaces, in the dining hall, and in their social media communities. ABC students learn freedom is a choice, and proudly make the sacrifices to attain it.

Inaugural “Coming Back from COVID-19” Lunch & Learn Explored Self-Care

Several members of the ABC community came together on June 20, 2022, for the launch of the College’s “Coming Back from COVID-19” Lunch & Learn Series. The inaugural presentation focused on self-care and featured Rev. Kimberly Proctor-White, a board-certified counselor, sharing “Three Ps to Practicing Self-Care.”
In taking care of ourselves during this stressful time, Proctor-White asked, “How do we get back to normalcy? And what is normal?” She presented attendees with three Ps for effective self-care:
1) Give yourself permission to engage in self-care.
2) Be persistent in creating space in your life for self-care.
3) Be protective of the time you dedicate for self-care.
Upcoming Lunch & Learn topics throughout the summer and fall will focus on ways to stay healthy and reduce the risk of COVID-19, as well as other concerns. This activity is paid for with funding provided by the United States Government to address and/or mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic pursuant to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Act

The day will include music, vendors, games, and activities for the entire family, along with COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, and provide an opportunity to explore our beautiful campus and learn more about what the College has to offer. All are invited!

Executive Vice President Richard Jackson has announced that the campus will observe summer hours, with full days Mondays through Thursdays, and half days on Fridays. Effective through July 29, 2022, campus office will maintain the following schedule (all times Central):
Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Friday: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
During that time, the campus main gate will close no later than 3 p.m. on Fridays and remain closed (except for previously scheduled and approved events) until 6 a.m. on Mondays.
Please note: American Baptist College will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Nashville business and civic leader Darrell Freeman passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Freeman was a friend and supporter of American Baptist College, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife, his children, and his entire family.
