HELPmatters
Dear HELP Champion <<First Name>> ,
June is an important month for Hong Kong’s migrant domestic worker community and the team at HELP.
As we celebrate International Domestic Workers Day on 16 June, we would like to celebrate not just our domestic worker community but also patrons like you for your unwavering support.
It’s been five months since cases related to the Omicron variant surged, leading to the Covid-19 pandemic’s fifth wave in Hong Kong.
As the city battled with rising numbers of cases stretching both medical and social services to their limits, HELP turned to the Hong Kong community to aid us in providing assistance to domestic workers facing homelessness after testing positive for Covid-19.
Your overwhelming response was truly humbling.
With your support, over the last five months, we were able to meet the emerging and ongoing needs of Hong Kong’s domestic worker community by providing:
-
Five shelters housing Covid positive domestic workers
-
More than 10,000 meals and care packages with basic necessities for domestic workers testing positive and in quarantine facilities and shelters
-
Over 19,000 hours of mental health counselling and medical consultations for domestic workers
-
Direct financial assistance for over 80 domestic workers to settle medical expenses after testing positive for Covid-19
-
Advice and assistance for more than 265 domestic workers on their rights with respect to discrimination, loss of employment or other issues in relation to Covid-19
-
Awareness and education for over 9,500 domestic workers on their rights in relation to their employment and Covid-19
As we continue to provide ongoing support to vulnerable domestic workers, we hope that you will continue to join us in our efforts to provide much-needed emergency and long-term assistance to Hong Kong’s domestic workers.
Pledge your support by becoming a monthly donor. For as little as HK$100 per month, HELP will be able to continue our programmes which provide emergency assistance to vulnerable domestic workers.
Volunteer with us by writing to jobs@helpfordomesticworkers.org. HELP’s team would not be complete without our team of dedicated volunteers.
Sign up for our newsletter to receive regular updates on our work.
Your support, big or small, ensures continued assistance for Hong Kong’s domestic workers so that they are empowered to get access to justice and fair and equal treatment.
Thank you so much for your commitment!
Sincerely,
Manisha Wijesinghe
