BMT’s Big Day Out - Summer Festival 2022

From Phantom of the Opera to Metallica - BMT’s Summer Festival is a great success

Over 600 children and young people performed across two stages as part of the Buckinghamshire Music Summer Festival at the Chiltern Open Air Museum on Sunday. Baking in the sun on a beautiful summer’s day, the audience enjoyed music, food and fun activities in one of the counties most beautiful spots. The performances included over 6 hours of music performed by the pupils of BMT’s Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Amersham Music Centres showcasing a wide range of musical styles and genres. Over 40 Orchestras, Big Bands, ensembles, rock bands and choirs displayed what they had been working on for the last year.

Performances included Big Band arrangements of the Blues Brothers, orchestral performances of Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Light Cavalry Overture and Lawrence of Arabia amongst others, to funky versions of Pee Wee Ellis’ The Chicken and rock band interpretations of Metallica, Muse and Led Zeppelin.

Further highlights were the ‘Crash Bang Wallop’ workshop for children under the age of 10 as well as The Big Sing, an on-the-spot workshop to celebrate singing for all to enjoy and participate.

Supported by a crowd of 3,000 the Big Day Out Summer Festival went down a storm on a day of glorious sunshine, what better way than to celebrate another year of fantastic music-making in the community.

Buckinghamshire Music Trust works with a large number of Buckinghamshire primary and secondary schools to provide a wide range of musical provision, including instrumental and singing lessons, school choirs and groups. BMT also runs three music centres across the county to create opportunities for children to learn and experience playing music in ensemble, orchestra, big band as well as rock band settings.
