We are quickly becoming the "haves" and the "have nots" in terms of precipitation, but not as dry as NW Iowa. The first chart shows the precipitation amounts and GDDs from January 1 through June 29. The second chart shows the precipitation amounts for June 1 through June 29.

Herbicide Application Concerns
If you suspect herbicide off target movement you have options for reporting such incidents with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. Please read Reporting a Suspected Herbicide Injury Incident to learn more.

Tar Spot
Goodness, one tweet about a tar spot in Indiana and the whole corn belt is on edge! See Alison's blog on All a twitter about tar spot. And now we have tar spot confirmed in Marshall County, Tar Spot reported in Central Iowa. Please read her list of considerations and then have a serious conversation with your fungicide retailer about supply. Several retailers are very concerned about supply and applying fungicide now may drastically limit your ability to spray later when needed! Also consider our current weather, hot, dry and wind do not favor the development of tar spot. Stay tuned for the latest updates via the Integrated Crop Management website,

Events

July 6, 7, and 8. Soil Health and Grazing Field Days will be held in three location across central and Northeast Iowa. Join us for an interactive field day looking at soil health parameters, how to assess grazing management, and grazing impacts on soil health. Corn Rootworm Management Demonstrations to be held around Iowa this summer. Please join us for this event at the Northern Research Farm, on July 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A light supper will be provided compliments of the Iowa Corn Growers Association. Please RSVP to Angie at 515-231-2830 by July 6 if you plan to join for supper! This will be held at the "south" farm, located 1.5 miles south of Kanawha, on the east side of the road. Follow signs for parking.
