LOST HIGHWAY: 4K RESTORATION - Toronto Theatrical Premiere Run!

Artwork by Drew Shannon

NEWLY RESTORED BY JANUS FILMS & SUPERVISED BY DAVID LYNCH & PRE-RECORDED INTRO BY DAVID LYNCH!

TORONTO THEATRICAL PREMIERE!

25th Anniversary Screenings!

From this inventory of imagery, Lynch fashions two separate but intersecting stories, one about a jazz musician (Bill Pullman), tortured by the notion that his wife is having an affair, who suddenly finds himself accused of her murder. The other is a young mechanic (Balthazar Getty) drawn into a web of deceit by a temptress who is cheating on her gangster boyfriend. These two tales are linked by the fact that the women in both are played by the same actress (Patricia Arquette).

Black Belt Cinema: MIAMI CONNECTION - 35th Anniversary Screening!

Artwork by Brandon Lim

35th Anniversary Screening! Featuring Live Performance by DRAGON POUND!

The year is 1987. Motorcycle ninjas have taken over the Florida narcotics trade, but one multinational martial arts-themed rock band has had enough. With the power of friendship, honesty, and Taekwondo at their side, 5 university classmates (who are also orphans) become Orlando’s #1 nightclub house band: DRAGON SOUND. Their musical mission? Protect their community from the iron grip of the MIAMI CONNECTION: a gang of drug dealing, motorcycle-riding, ninja thugs who also have a band.

Directed by Woo-Sang Park (L.A. STREETFIGHTERS) and written/produced by Florida-based martial arts teacher Grandmaster Y.K.Kim 35 years ago, MIAMI CONNECTION was rarely seen until DRAFTHOUSE FILMS restored it back in 2012. 10 years later Y.K. Kim’s passion project remains an international cult sensation, blending crazy 80s action, thrilling fight sequences (ft. Kim’s actual students), and live musical performances from the one and only DRAGON SOUND! - BRANDON LIM

We Really Like Her: TAKE THIS WALTZ

Artwork by Mariel Ashlinn Kelly

We Really Like Her! is kicking off Sad Girl Summer with one of the most underrated movies of the 2010s: Sarah Polley’s sweaty and sexy dramedy Take This Waltz.

Starring the ever-incredible Michelle Williams, Take This Waltz follows a young woman named Margot as she navigates her blossoming feelings for her mischievous neighbour (Luke Kirby, of The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, as Daniel), while also trying to rekindle the flame she once had with her husband (Seth Rogen as chicken-obsessed chef Lou). Set and shot on the streets of Toronto and featuring a soundtrack filled with Canadian artists like Feist and Leonard Cohen, this film hits close to home in more ways than one as it dares to confront the double standards that women face when they follow their hearts (and other body parts).

One of the most colourful depictions of the state of being “between” things, Take This Waltz will delight you and upset you in equal measure. At the very least it will make you want to make a pilgrimage to the Centreville Scrambler. Either way, come prepared with tissues, and maybe a personal fan. - EMILY GAGNE + DANITA STEINBERG
