Rengifo-Grau hopes to 'move the hearts of the people' as head of Chile's first biodiversity conservation fund



    

The International Land Conservation Network (ILCN) is delighted to share the news that Eugenio Rengifo-Grau, who partnered with the ILCN through its Large Landscape Peer Learning Initiative in 2018 and 2021, will now lead Fondo Naturaleza Chile. On June 1, Rengifo-Grau took on the title of executive director for Fondo Naturaleza, which is the nation's first institution aimed at addressing the historical government underfunding of biodiversity conservation in Chile.

The Inaugural African Protected Areas Congress is a first step in the vision for an African conservation network



    

Within the next five years, Kiragu Mwangi, the International Land Conservation Network's (ILCN) regional representative for Africa, envisions a private and civic conservation network in Africa equivalent to those already established in Europe and internationally. The inaugural African Protected Areas Congress (APAC), happening this month, is a key part of the timeline for this initiative.

Bioconnect Project Webinar: The Derecho Real de Conservación in Chile and its incorporation in the State of Sonora
The French Development Agency and the University of the Environment of Mexico are partnering to share the experience of and lessons from the application of the DRC in Chile and its incorporation in the State of Sonora. The newly-passed legislation strengthens the legal framework for protecting private land in Chile and Mexico. 

International Union for Conservation of Nature conference: Africa Protected Areas Congress
 
The inaugural Africa Protected Areas Congress (APAC) will convene stakeholders from across the nation to discuss the role of protected areas in conserving nature, safeguarding Africa's iconic wildlife, delivering vital life-supporting ecosystem services, and promoting sustainable development while conserving culture and tradition. APAC is primarily in-person but is offering select opportunities for remote participation. More information on streaming is available here.

Land Trust Alliance Rally: National Land Conservation Conference
 
The 35th annual gathering of inspired and passionate land conservation practitioners from around the world. Participants enjoy educational sessions, networking events, exhibits, plenary sessions, and an awards presentation celebrating conservation leadership. Early bird registration ends July 25.
