Happy PRIDE to all 2SLGBTQ+ communities and allies.

Individuals within this community experience higher rates of mental illness. We can all play a role in increasing the mental wellbeing of this community by creating supportive workplaces, social groups, and neighborhoods.
In Canada, is it estimated that over 23% of Canadian public safety personnel (PSP) deals with PTSD. As such, PSPNET wants to recognize PTSD Awareness Day by reaffirming our commitment to helping Canadian PSP access PTSD treatment and reduce the stigma around PSP experiencing, and receiving help for PTSD.

Please join us in raising awareness by wearing the teal on June 27th!

SPOUSE OR SIGNIFICANT OTHER WELLBEING COURSE

The PSPNET team is working hard to implement a free, self-guided, wellbeing course for spouses or significant others of PSP. The program is designed to treat symptoms of low mood, depression, worry, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Currently, the plan is to have the program up and running by this coming summer.

Mental Health Tip

National Health and Fitness Day was June 4th. In order to recognize this initiative we are dedicating this months mental health tip to fitness.

Fitness

Research is continually coming out stating the benefits of regular physical activity. In fact, regular physical activity can help:

  • Reduce the stresses we experience daily
  • Prevent depression and anxiety
  • Increase personal happiness
  • Lower feelings of loneliness
  • Improve your sleep quality
  • Treat post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic pain

It is recommended that adults get 150 minutes a week of at least moderately intense exercise. Of course, many people struggle to start habits that include physical activity. Researchers recommend:

  • Figuring out why you want to exercise
  • Decide what type of exercise best suits you
  • Make a plan with regular, concrete, and realistic goals
  • Track your progress and celebrate small gains
  • Practice self-compassion
