Crazy Times

I’ve been thrown some real curve balls over the last few months.

After learning that I had hip dysplasia the race was on to complete my Reformer exam in March before Full Hip Replacement surgery in April. I had the best time completing my qualification and continue to have my mind blown by how much Pilates can help us to move better and ultimately pain free (for any of you have suffered low back pain and subsequently discovered Pilates, you know what I mean!) I was reminded of the power of sharing knowledge and our community.

Those of you who have experienced surgery with the NHS will know that you have very little control of when it happens and so planning for it is almost impossible. In the end the call came on the Thursday 7th of April and I went in on Monday the 11th! I consider myself extremely lucky, having waited just over a year from start to finish, as I’ve heard many horror stories with waiting lists of 3 years plus. That Monday we arrived at the hospital at 7:30am and at 7:30pm of the same day I was picked up. I can tell you now I have never felt so euphoric or as in love with the NHS as I was at that point, and though the euphoria faded a little along with the morphine, I am still completely in awe of this incredible institution.

During the following weeks I was looked after beautifully and patiently by my husband – an expert having looked after his own father during 2 of his hip replacements! As soon as I could I was back to doing small amounts of Pilates here and there - with the guidance of my physiotherapist - both on the mat, and on the Reformer. I can’t tell you how satisfying it has been for me to be on the receiving end of this amazing strengthening practice. Building confidence in movement with my new joint and increasing flexibility all the time. Learning from the inside - out the limitations and time it takes to trust and enjoy the freedom of a brand new piece of kit.

On the 30th of April after a mercifully short turn for the worse – we lost my beautiful Mum who had dementia but died of sarcoma cancer. There is nothing to say about that except that I will miss her immensely. I know many of you have lost a parent and right now the pain is quite raw, the temptation to reach for the phone and share my life with her will be there for years to come.

So after this time of turmoil I am glad to be throwing myself back into my work at full tilt! I am hoping you will join me. I have several new classes starting listed below. I would love if you would spread the word where you feel it’s appropriate. Let’s get moving and enjoy this incredible machine we have been gifted!

I have a favor to ask and it’s an uncomfortable one for me! If you feel able or inclined I would be grateful if you would write a short testimonial on my Facebook page. There is nothing that comes close to you saying you enjoy my classes for whatever reason.

You can leave a review on my Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/corepilateswithmj/reviews/

Thank you again for supporting me while I have navigated life’s challenges. Thank you for all your kind wishes and messages of love and support. Very thankful for this little community we are building together.

Love MJ xx
