Adios SHPE Houston!
Howdy Familia! I can't believe I'm writing my last newsletter to you as President chapter, it's been 2 years of this amazing journey since I accepted the nomination to run for the first term. What was going to be my surprise that during the elections and later when my term started we all were fully into a pandemic and lockdown! Can you imagine that with a board of 11 officers going through the same, well like everyone I wasn't ready, but when you have such a talented group of professionals things just started moving and before we knew it, we all adapted to virtual life and the chapter was moving again. 2021 elections came on time and members along with officers asked me to consider running if nominated, and I accepted to run for a second term with only one goal in my mind, to bring the chapter along with the board of directors to the best it could be. To make SHPE Houston Professional the chapter that reflects our community and our members, and coming out of covid-19 this was not an easy task. With almost no fundraising due to economic challenges for members and companies, but still we all took the challenge.
Let me tell you that I will give credit to all officers that were part of this journey but specially there is one person that told me when I was scared to run for president that she was going to be with me as my Vice President Internal to take that challenge and she was fully on her word, that person is Cindy Sanchez and without her support this journey certainly would have not be the same. For my second term she was firm to say I will stay and run for my position to keep our vision of where the chapter should be along with the board of officers, being said this THANK YOU Cindy and thanks for believe in me!!
To my Wife and my kids Thank you for supporting this journey and allowed me to spend countless hours sometimes during weekends to support SHPE and SHPE Houston Professional!
I know that I keep bringing over and over that we wanted to bring the chapter to it's best version and I will mention just a few milestones that were achieved by this board of directors such:
- Record-shattering Scholarship Gala was executed, $41K+ were raised in combined efforts of the Gala and company matching programs
- 4th Annual Gala and first in person since 2019 with 120+ attendees and a fundraising target of $14,000 was exceeded!
- 213 Active members as I write this!
- Sold-out RLDC with 249 out of the 358 attendees being students. This was the highest undergrad attendance out of all the 7 regional conferences! All this with an amazing performance from Texas A&M student chapter and professionals from our chapter volunteering.
- Order of the Engineer Ceremony this term was also record-breaking as we had 47 inductees, made up of 19 students and 28 professionals all over the region, including Canada!
- We continued to support Student chapters and provide support to our community with outreach events.
All of this wasn't easy, it took 800+ recorded volunteering hours!
To all the Board of Directors from 2021-2022 that gave their best to the chapter a big THANK YOU!!

Q2 General Meeting
TODAY June 30th, 2022 7pm
Familia! It is the end of term and we're committed to end it with a bang! Join us for the Q2 General Meeting, our last GM with the current Board of Officers. We'll be recapping our most impactful events, announcing our next few events, and talking about volunteering opportunities for the next term!
Right after the meeting session, we'll be discussing and giving tips on how to pitch SHPE to your organization. Come with questions as we want this to be engaging and informative. Remember, YOU have the power to make a change!

2022 ESE Cup THANK YOU!!
Successful and largest attended by far (~114 attendees)!
On behalf of SHPE Houston we would like to thank everyone who came out and participated! S/O to the planning team in making this event another successful one! The scorching sun was no match for SHPE UH, TAMU, Rice, interns, pets, guests, and professionals from all of the region to come and have a blast with us. We hope this continues to grow more and more each year!!!
