We are finally settling into winter, cool crisp mornings with a cover of frost on the ground. Fires burning all night, we have hydronic heating so after Easter the fires are lit, and they will continue to roar until end October. After that we clean and freshen up the fireplaces & cooktops ready for next winter.

Hopefully we have had a good dump of snow, this is always a surprise for Alan (Husband) & Teddy (the loved Poodle), both love wondering the grounds and taking numerous photos

I always think winter is the best time to really enjoy our local produce, slow cooked duck, lamb & beef in a rich sauce; this is finger licking good grub. So, make sure you book a long lunch or dinner to enhance your stay. Alternatively head down to the Pavilion overlooking our lake, heat up the pot belly fireplace, open the sliding doors and watch our family of ducks & neighbouring cows from your armchair.

A delicious picnic box will only enhance your stay from Daylesford Picnic Boxes. Your pre-ordered box will be delivered to your accommodation. Pop open a bottle of your choice, take a book, some pencils and sit and enjoy what we sometimes take for granted.

What a fabulous way to spend an afternoon or evening.

Don’t forget to book Borealis on Lake Daylesford, before September 4 to see Artivist Dan Acher’s Northern Lights show, this will be sure to impress. Limited time so book ahead so you are not disappointed. (Tip: take warm clothes & shoes).

The veggie garden is still in its dormant stage, green manure still growing, but due to be cut down & covered. This will breakdown the soil and will be enriched with all the nutrients and little worms to ensure a healthy soil for my next batch of vegetables.

Don’t forget about our local markets, Daylesford Railway Station has a fab market each and every Sunday, from about 8am to 1pm. Lots of “bargains” to be had, fresh food and of course the train ride, now that’s a must.
