I’m tempted to caption this “a serious Sunday Service about play.” In fact, overwork is a serious issue in our culture, from medical, spiritual, and even political points of view.  In the 1950s, futurists were predicting a four-day work week and a surplus of leisure time. Forty years later it was a non-issue; the average workweek had been extended by nine hours.  How do we restore a balance between work and play?

COVID Protection Policy Update

At the June 2022 Board of Trustees meeting, your representatives voted to adopt the below policy regarding COVID-19 protocols and masking. Signage has been installed to clearly indicate the current masking protocols per the CDC's COVID-19 Community Levels.

The Board appreciates your continued flexibility as we progress through and eventually past this public health emergency.

CUUB will base masking requirements on CDC COVID-19 Community Levels, which are updated Thursday evenings by 8pm Eastern per the CDC website.

CUUB will post a color matched red/yellow/green sign on each main entry door and change as needed before the Sunday service.
  • HIGH (red) - full masking while in the building excepting those who have tested negative that morning or while stating Joys & Sorrows at the podium microphone.
  • MEDIUM (YELLOW) - "restaurant style" allowing additional unmasking in the building only while seated; coffee/snacks (etc.) are allowed to be consumed in the building while seated. Masks are required for singing (excepting "HIGH" precautions above)
  • LOW (Green) masks optional and recommended for attendees with additional health and safety concerns at their own discretion.
Thank you,
Your Board

Get to know the Pastoral Care Team at CUUB

Pastoral care is an ancient model of emotional, social and spiritual support that can be found in all cultures and traditions.

At CUUB the *Pastoral Care Team (PCT) is a group of people who work with the minister and the congregation to identify members of CUUB who might suddenly find life’s challenges overwhelming or who would welcome a simple contact.
Our efforts center on:
  • Mailing cards on behalf of CUUB -- with personalized messages reflecting our care and concern as well as our good wishes and congratulations.
  • Lending empathetic ears to someone who might “just need to talk.”
  • Coordinating meal deliveries, child care arrangements, or transportation during an illness or family emergency.
  • Helping identify appropriate community and professional resources.
  • Assisting with planning memorials and funerals.
As indicated above, PCT relies on our Community to let us know about the potential needs/concerns of our members. We want to respect an individual’s privacy, but sometimes just letting people know they are not alone is important.

*Members of PCT have pledged confidentiality in all matters brought to their attention with the understanding that Federal Law requires us to report suspected child or elder abuse/neglect and suicidal or homicidal intentions.

Are you available, on an occasional basis, to prepare/deliver a meal, take someone to the doctor, spell a caregiver for a couple of hours? Do you know a member who might welcome a PCT empathy card or who is deserving of our good wishes or congratulations? Let us know.

CUUB Mindfulness Meditation Sangha continues

We are pleased to announce that CUUB will be continuing our meditation Sangha in person (following CUUB COVID policy) on the second & 4th Thursdays through August from 6:30 - 7:30.

Brenda Lindsay, a friend of CUUB, trained through Brown University As a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher, has generously volunteered to lead the Sangha.

The MBSR secular program, that Brenda was trained to teach, was created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD at the UMass Medical Center in 1979 to optimize one's ability to face stress, pain, and illness and make sustainable change across one's lifespan.

So please add these dates to your calendar. You will be happy that you did. July 14th & 28th and August 11th & 25th.
