It's July, Friend!

The Secret to Making Dreams Come True

The Awake Dreamer
It’s finally happening. After years of trying, I have a book coming out on September 1st.  I’ve been on the publishing path for most of my adult life and have three unpublished manuscripts in the drawer to prove it. But one day, I read a quote by Anita Shreve that said, “The only difference between a published writer and an unpublished writer is the published writer never gave up.” (For more stories on writers who never gave up on their dreams, click here).

In Madeleine L’Engle’s The Crosswick Journals, she writes about feeling sad on her 40th birthday because she’d yet to become what she consMeet Psychic Teachers!idered a successful author. She decided to give up writing completely. She describes the melodramatic scene of covering her typewriter and descending the stairs to celebrate her birthday. But as she was walking down the stairs, she realized she was narrating the entire scene in her head. A writer writes. And this is true for any passion we pursue. An artist creates. An actor acts. A lightworker heals. An intuitive intuits. After L’Engle’s revelation that she was a lifelong writer, she wrote A Wrinkle in Time and the rest – as they say – is history.

When I read that story, I decided to keep on writing too. I’ve kept my fiction to myself over the last few years, but then an idea came to me for nonfiction that I believe can The Awake Dreamer Preorderhelp shed light on one of the most fascinating questions – where do we go when we sleep? I had so much fun researching stories about astral travel in dreams, past life dreams, dream visits with deceased loved ones, dreams of healing, crossing over ghosts, and receiving guidance from guides and angels.

I’m glad I persevered and held onto my dream. I can’t wait to share The Awake Dreamer with you. If you have a dream you’ve considered giving up on, consider these suggestions:

Tips to Help Make Your Dreams Come True

Ask For Help From The Other Side: Ask your guides, angels, and any friends or family in heaven to help you with your dreams. But don’t forget to ask people in spirit whom you admire and respect for help.

During the quarantine of Covid, I used the extra time at home to write a memoir about my experiences as an intuitive. This manuscript got me an agent, but she was having a hard time selling it to editors. They all said memoirs are passe. Who knew?

One of my favorite metaphysical authors is Rosemary Ellen Guiley who passed away in 2019. I reached out to her in a meditation and asked her to help me with my writing dream. Not a week later, an editor with Hampton Roads got back to my agent. He said he really enjoyed my writing but the memoir category was oversaturated. However, he did ask me to put together a proposal for a new book I’d like to write and promised he’d take a look at it. I wrote The Awake Dreamer proposal and had a signed contract before the month was out. And guess what? Rosemary’s first published book was on dreams too.

Ask Yourself This One Question: Would you still pursue this dream even if it never sees the light of day or comes to fruition? Meditating on this question helped me create a very positive mindset around my writing goals. If you knew you’d never get paid, would you still act on stage? If you knew no one would ever see it, would you still paint? Or write? Or sculpt? Once I realized that I’d always write – whether I was good, great, or bad at it or even if no one ever read it – I started to have fun writing again. It's so important to get to the ROOT of why we want this dream to come true. Is it for financial gain? The accolades? Or is it for the simple, pure, unadorned love of it?

Be Willing to Amend Your Dream: Often our dreams materialize in ways we’re not expecting. Some people will turn away opportunities because it’s not how they expect or want their dream to look. But we have to remember that we’re co-creators with the Universe. We are not solely in charge (and definitely not in control) of our world. When we’re able to bend, surrender, and go with the flow, we allow the Universe to work with us (rather than against us). Blocks disappear and walls tumble down as we open our arms and say yes to help, change, and new paths. If my first novel had been published when I wrote it in my 20s, I wouldn’t have this rewarding career as an intuitive and podcaster. I wouldn’t have connected with all you wonderful listeners. I’d be tucked away in my office writing and keeping my dreams and intuitive insights to myself.

So dream on. Create vision boards and goal books. Wish on shooting stars. Ask for help from the Universe and the beautiful world of spirit knowing that your passions and dreams were implanted inside of you because they’re a part of your destiny.
