COVID cases in Cornwall are rising
COVID cases are on the rise again in Cornwall and we are urging people to do all they can to protect themselves and others from the virus.
We are asking residents and visitors alike to make sure they and their families are fully vaccinated against COVID. Vaccines are still available for anyone aged five and older who has not yet taken up the offer. If you’re eligible for a spring booster, please do book this month to ensure you will have a six month gap before the next booster is offered in the autumn.
We are also encouraging people to go back to the basics of 'hands, face, space' :
wash or sanitise hands regularly
try to meet outdoors if possible
keep indoor spaces well ventilated
wear a mask if you can in busy indoor settings
don’t mix with people if you’re feeling unwell.
See the Information about Coronavirus page on our website for information, including how to live safely with COVID-19, testing and vaccinations, self-isolation, local COVID-19 data, mental health support, and more.
All UK households are to get a grant to reduce their energy bills by £400.
The discount will be made automatically by your energy supplier and there is no need to apply. Over the course of six months from October; direct debit and credit customers will have the money credited to their account.
Customers with pre-payment meters will have the money applied to their meter or paid via a voucher. There will also be extra help for people on benefits.
If you are attending large events over the summer or having sex with new partners, be alert to any monkeypox symptoms so you can get tested rapidly and help avoid passing the infection on.
While the risk to the population remains low, people should be alert to any new rashes or lesions on any part of their body. Although this advice applies to everyone, the majority of the cases identified to date have been among men who are gay, bisexual and men who have sex with men (MSM), so these groups in particular should be aware of the symptoms, particularly if they have recently had a new sexual partner.
Monkeypox is a viral infection. It is typically a mild self-limiting illness, passed on by very close contact with someone with monkeypox and most people recover within a few weeks.
People should contact NHS 111 immediately if they develop a rash or lesions.
Are you - or is anyone you know - able to offer space in your home to people who have fled Ukraine?
As the war continues, we are seeing more refugee families arriving here needing emergency accommodation. And while we had many expressions of interest to become sponsors at the start of the invasion, many of those expressions have proved to be unsuitable.
On top of this, many of our existing sponsors are unable to extend their current accommodation offer beyond six months.
We are continuing to work with government and other agencies to match families to sponsors after carrying out safeguarding and suitability checks and we would love to hear from you if you think you could provide accommodation.

It's National Breastfeeding Celebration Week and we've been promoting the role that everyone can play in supporting mothers to take up and continue breastfeeding for at least the first six months of their baby’s life.
Evidence shows breastfeeding has a wide and positive impact on a baby’s development, from strengthening immunity and providing nutritional value to emotional bonding and building mental resilience.
We've be sharing more information on our Breastfeeding Peer Support Cornwall Facebook group each day throughout the week. Come and join the discussion.
Pet owners, more and more people in Cornwall are recycling their pet food packaging.
It’s easy to recycle your tinned cat and dog food using our kerbside collection service. Just give your tin a quick rinse and put it in your red bag for recycling tins and plastics.
If your pet has food in pouches, these can be recycled - along with your other soft plastics, like bread bags and carrier bags - at many supermarkets.
