Sharon Krasny has worked as an educator for over 18 years in Virginia and abroad teaching in both Hungary and the Czech Republic. She discovered a love of oral history from the people’s enthusiasm in retelling their knowledge of old. As an Advanced Placement Literature and Research English teacher, she has spent years encouraging students to take risks, look closely at the smallest details, and determine hidden meaning found within the text. Her own writing reflects these values. Her first debut novel is the award winning Silver Finalist of IBPA Benjamin Franklin's Best New Voice in Literature with Iceman Awakens.
Sharon lives and writes in Northern Virginia with her husband Prokop and their rescue pets - Labrador Rupert and cat Bonnie. Sharon says about WbtR:
I've enjoyed our outings to the museum and to the Battlefield. I actually spoke at Spilled Ink's mic at the Art fest last fall - never tried that before. I went to the VWC conference 2019 and met Greg Fields, acquisition editor for Koehler and published my first book. Those were all great things thanks to Write by the Rails. The highlight, so far, was having poet Katherine Gotthardt come and work with my students. I enjoyed getting to know her more and seeing her in action with students willing to risk and play with poetry. It was a great collaboration.
