Transforming our Workplaces

Being and making disciples at work is fraught with all sorts of challenges, but the workplace is where the majority of men and women spend most of their waking time. What if we were able to equip all of our church members to be confident disciples, and disciple-makers, at work? It’s such a huge mission field, such an amazing opportunity for us to ‘Be, Do, and Say’ the gospel. It’s the place where we can grow in our Christlikeness, grow in our leadership, grow in acts of kindness, grow as kingdom culture transformers, and grow in our missional confidence. Unprecedented growth opportunities!

And yet how many of us could say that is a priority for us as churches is to equip our members for their life in the workplace? Probably not many, if any. Why not? Perhaps it’s because we are more interested in what our members can do for the church as volunteers or leaders, how they can contribute to our programmes, courses and structures. Maybe it’s just because we’ve never thought about it.

Well, our online November Kx Leaders' morning on Wed Nov 9th, with Mark Greene of the LICC, will help us do just this. It will hopefully be the start of a journey for many of us to see our members begin to have great impact where they work. We will be following it up with a variety of options so that the process of becoming ‘workplace-friendly churches’ can continue beyond that morning.

Do put the date in your diary and start to assemble the team of staff and others that you would like to bring to that morning.

Garden Rescue in Liverpool

Keeping your ears to the ground and being aware of potential need in a community can offer great opportunities to be able to share Jesus' love. A member of one of Frontline Liverpool's missional communities saw a need that could be met by the group .. a young family's back yard was a jungle and they offered to go in and make it over for them. It was unusable as it was and the family had no means to be able to change it. But with many hands and shared resources the jungle was transformed into a garden.
The family were touched by the helpful band of people, and with smiles and concern for their wellbeing, the community continue to support and pray that their hearts will be transformed too.

Golden Joinery

Kintsugi is a Japanese technique for repairing pottery with seams of gold and means 'Golden Joinery'. This repairs the brokenness in a way that makes the object more beautiful, and even more unique, than it was prior to being broken. Instead of hiding the scars, it makes a feature of them.
All of us have broken pieces but instead of hiding them we can learn from them and discover treasures in our scars.

Kintsugi Hope was founded by Diane and Patrick Regan OBE after a series of operations and events that took them to the brink; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. They realised many were alone in their struggles and so have found ways to support and give hope to the broken hearted.

Never has this been more relevant than after the last 2 years.
The Church is in every community across this country and it will outlast government schemes. It is committed to people's wellbeing – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Kintsugi Hope Groups work in communities through the local church with an attitude of humility – not to judge, fix or rescue, but to come alongside and love one another.

A Great Resource for New Christians

Several years ago Elly Maconochie, Paul Maconochie's wife, produced a simple booklet for Grace Family Gatherings, which is a great resource if you have a new christian you are walking alongside. It is a great starter using some of our well worn favourite ideas for 'raising missionary disciples' and can help point the way for a new believer as they begin their journey with Jesus.

Elly has given permission for it to be used and reproduced, so go ahead and see if this can benefit you. Kx is always looking for new ways to support and offer resources and so is grateful for this tool.
