Commodore's notes

I’m looking out the office window – it’s a bay of white water, almost all the boats are tucked up in marinas – its ‘blowing dogs off chains’. I have spent many more days in the marina so far than at the moorings.

We’ve had a busy last few weeks – three events. I suppose it was 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw. The RS event at the end of May was super. The RS class social media was full of our praises and it was a great event for the club where all sections of the club came together to help.

The Topper event was a loss – the weather defeated us, the 25th & 26th was one of the strongest wind weekends in June I can remember.

Campbeltown was a ‘draw’. Six boats made it over, 30+ kts on Saturday wiped out any event but the Campbeltown club were very glad we came and treated us very well. Such was the wind that most boats stayed an extra day and came home on the Monday.

The club has some great ‘whole club’ events lined up for the rest of the season,  a BBQ on Gigha on July 10th (by the Boathouse organised Tom), A BBQ on Saturday 23rd July after the cruiser regatta, the Cushendun Sports Day – always good fun and a ‘tweeked’ Annual Dinner. Sailing School starts on 18th July and runs for 4 weeks.

Have a good time over the next while – the summer is getting better, promise!

See as many of you on Gigha as possible.

Sun, breeze and 20 boats turn up for RS Northerns, hosted by CSBC

On the weekend of 28th/29th May the Club hosted the Irish RS Northerns. Twenty RS200s and 400s attended with entries from across both the Northern Ireland fleet and from as far away as Cork and Galway. Both the sun and the breeze turned up in fine form and the competitors enjoyed the very best of sailing in Red Bay.

Racing was tight at both the front and at the back of the fleet with the pairings of Peter Kennedy/Stephen Kane (RNIYC/SLYC) winning overall in the 400s and Jocelyn Hill/Rebecca Kidd (CAYC) winning overall in the 200s.

Race organisation was excellent with Race Officer Richard Doig (CAYC) fitting in three back-to-back races for both fleets on Saturday and again on Sunday from the Committee Boat (Saracen).

Our shore-based arrangements also worked extremely well and there was a great atmosphere in the bar on Saturday night and indeed right across the weekend.

We are most grateful to CAYC for the support which they provided and to the many CSBC members who volunteered both on and off the water to help make this a really superb event for our Club.

Sponsorship for the event was kindly provided by the Glens of Antrim Distillery and McCollam Marine Ltd:

Will you join the CSBC trip to Gigha on Sunda 10th July?

It is proposed to have a club outing to Gigha on Sunday 10th July including yachts and ribs. The Boathouse have been asked to lay on a BBQ for us and have asked for an indication of numbers.

We would be grateful if cruiser and powerboat skippers could confirm to Eddie Ritson and Gary Fyfe respectively if they intend to go and, if so, how many crew to expect.
