Top 5 tips when shopping for shoes by Nurses Sarab & Lindsy
Nurses Sarab and Lindsy wanted to share their top 5 “Shoe Shopping” Tips with you this month. Although fashion may be attractive, function and comfort go a long way when it comes to buying shoes:
- Your shoes should fit your feet, and not the other way around. Trust your comfort level and don’t “squeeze” your feet into shoes. Studies have shown that women tend to buy shoes that are too tight, and men buy shoes that are too big.
- Shop for shoes in the afternoon; our feet naturally swell up throughout the day. Combining the shoes with a well-fitted compression sock can help with leg circulation.
- Shop for all dimensions; height, width, and length. Have your feet professional measured as our feet change with age. You should have ½ inch of space between your longest toe and the end of your shoe box. Our feet get larger and wider and it’s important to find a pair that accommodates these changes.
- Look for comfort and stability. Don’t let someone tell you that the shoes need to be “broken in”, because your shoes should fit you from the start. Try the shoes on both feet and walk around with them: make sure that you have enough room for your toes, enough padding for the feet and enough support. Think of your shoes for your feet like a good mattress for your back!
- Look at the inside and the outside of the shoe. Put your hands in the shoes: is there any material that may irritate the foot? Examine the soles of the shoes: are they sturdy enough? Your shoes should provide you cushioning and support.
