Following on from a brilliant first series that tackled how Aotearoa came to be and how it works, the new season focuses on strategies and actions to make our country a better place. Looking at examples from the history of Aotearoa, the six new episodes show how rangatahi can shape their country through legal systems, journalism, campaigns, and direct action.

Co-creator and series host Robbie Nicol says that comedy is a great way to communicate serious ideas.

“The focus of the series is helping young people learn about how they can influence the present and future of Aotearoa, presented in an entertaining way,” he said.

“It can sometimes seems like the rules of New Zealand are set in stone, and it’s easy to forget that there are actions you can take to change those rules if you want to. If you think New Zealand is already perfect, then you can still watch the show. It’s got funny jokes in it.”

“We had amazing feedback on the first series and it was viewed online more than a million times. We can’t wait to bring Season 2 to the rangatahi of Aotearoa, to make them laugh and give them some of the tools they need to participate in our democracy.”

The Citizen’s Handbook is produced by Kevin & Co for TAHI, and made with the support of NZ On Air. A new episode will be released at 10am every Monday starting 18 July at TAHI.fm.
