We hope you had a great 4th of July holiday. Continue the celebrations by coming out for this Second Saturday Art Walk in Astoria. We are opening a show of works by sculptor Suzanne Long, in addition to the continuing "Duality" exhibition of new paintings by Emily C. McPhie .

Suzanne's work is about memory, as a way to add a visual narrative to her thoughts. "My work is about melancholy and humor, politics and storytelling. Sometimes I don't know what my work is about, I just have a compulsion to create, I let my hands lead, at other times my mind. Sometimes I make the same piece over an over, like learning the words of a song, practicing. I repeat it again and again until it is a part of me, then I can release the concept with an understanding of it. My work teaches me who I am, it defines the edges for a time."

Emily C. McPhie's stunning show, continues through August 7. We shared this video last month, but thought if you missed it you might like to hear Emily talk about her work.

To celebrate the new partnership between Brumfield Gallery in Astoria and Bronze Coast Gallery in Cannon Beach we thought it would be nice to start a new tradition and feature an artwork from our sibling gallery each month. This is "The World on Her Back" by Tony Hochstetler. Enjoy.
