Participate in a Pilot to Promote Educator Wellness in your LEA

With funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division of Adolescent and School Health,
Child Trends is developing a toolkit to help local education agencies (LEAs) promote employee wellness. The toolkit emphasizes a team-based approach involving authentic engagement of a diverse set of employees, including those who are often excluded from decision-making, and leverages existing, high-quality tools to support LEA employee wellness efforts. Child Trends is looking for LEAs to pilot the toolkit September - December 2022.

Child Trends is conducting a national recruitment of LEAs and is looking to recruit in DC. If you are interested or have any questions, please click here for more information and contact Brandon Stratford at Child Trends by July 31, 2022 at bstratford@childtrends.org.

2022-23 Continuous Education Plans (CEP)
While LEAs are still expected to maintain health and safety plans, they will only need to submit the URL where their health and safety plans can be found rather than submitting a plan to OSSE for review.

The full CEP application will be released to LEA Leaders and LEA Data Managers on Tuesday, July 5, and are due to OSSE by noon on Friday, July 29, 2022.

School Health and Safety Guidance Technical Assistance (reminder)
The next School Health and Safety Community of Practice call is at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, and will include an opportunity to discuss identifying and addressing barriers to vaccination. Join the call here. Advance registration is not required. The audience for these calls includes LEA leaders, principals and other administrators, and school health points of contact.

LEA leaders who cannot attend the upcoming call or who wish to have questions addressed on the call, can email the Division of Health and Wellness at OSSE.HealthandSafety@dc.gov.

On-Site Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and Floating Registered Nurses (reminder)
2021-22 School Year
OSSE-hired PCTs and RNs (Option A) will continue at participating schools through the end of the school year and into summer and the 2022-23 school year (see below).

LEAs that have received a subgrant from OSSE to hire their own clinical support staff (Option B LEAs) will be granted a no-cost extension through Sept. 30, 2022. All reimbursement requests are due by Dec. 1, 2022. If you require an application amendment to adjust your planned spending, please submit in the Enterprise Grants Management System (EGMS) by Dec. 1, 2022.

2022-23 School Year
OSSE-hired PCTs and floating RNs will be available for ALL charter schools beginning as early as summer and continuing through the 2022-23 year. One PCT per school and floating RN supervision will support COVID-19 tasks as well as No Shots No School vaccination efforts.


[ACTION REQUIRED] All charter LEAs must complete this survey to indicate their interest in receiving OSSE-hired clinical supports (i.e., one PCT per school with floating supervisory RNs) to support activities in your school related to COVID-19 and the Immunization Attendance Policy for summer 2022 and/or the 2022-23 school year. The sooner this information is received, the better OSSE will be able to meet your LEA’s preferred needs in a timely manner.

OSSE Positive Cases Response Team (reminder)

  • Charter schools should continue to report cases to the OSSE Positive Case Response Team through July 30, 2022. After July 30, charters should report directly to DC Health. Training on reporting to DC Health will take place in July.
  • Effective immediately, and in accordance with the updated DC Health Guidance for Educational Facilities, schools are now required to report if a school has 25 or more positive cases tied to one single event.

COVID-19 Testing in Schools Update (reminder)
End of the 2021-22 School Year

Summer 2022
Test to Stay
OSSE and DC Health will provide rapid antigen tests to support Test to Stay to participating LEAs during summer 2022. If your LEA is participating in Test to Stay during the summer, please submit requests using this form
for up to a month supply of antigen tests. Requests are due by July 24 for August shipments. Tests will be shipped directly to your LEA.

Asymptomatic Screening Testing for Pre-K
LEAs will receive antigen test kits for weekly asymptomatic screening testing for pre-K students throughout the summer. These will be shipped directly to LEAs, and no action is required by the LEA to receive these kits.

Test to Return

DC Health and OSSE will ship test kits to your LEA in August in preparation for Test to Return to school based on enrollment numbers available as of Aug. 1, 2022. No action is required by LEAs to receive these kits.

2022 Health and Physical Education Assessment results: View Now in Qlik
The 2021-22 school year Health and Physical Education Assessment (HPEA) administration window closed on Friday, June 24, 2022. Thank you for your collaboration to administer the assessment this year. All HPEA points of contact (POCs) and LEA Data Managers received an email from OSSE on July 6, 2022 sharing detailed images from Qlik and additional information on how to access the tool.


How can LEAs view results from HPEA?
Each LEA can access assessment results in Qlik. LEA Data Managers and HPEA POCs can view and download completion rate reports for your school or LEA. LEAs can also view and download assessment results at the LEA, school and student levels, filterable by school year. Please contact OSSE.SchoolHealth@dc.gov to request access for an additional user or to share any questions.


School Health Profiles (Raw Excel Data)
The 2021-22 school year School Health Profiles (SHP) raw Excel data has been published to the OSSE website as required by the Healthy Schools Act (HSA) and can be found here. The data from the SHP meet reporting requirements to DC Council, inform the DC School Report Card and determine eligibility for grants and other supports from OSSE.

As a reminder, all schools are required by the HSA to publish the PDF of their profile to the school’s website upon receipt. If you haven’t done so already, please ensure schools within your LEA have published their PDFs by Friday, July 15.


Recruiting Teachers for Accessible Computational Thinking (reminder)
Accessible Computational Thinking (ACT) is a professional development research project for grade 1-5 teachers exploring computational thinking in culturally relevant science lessons. Join ACT and explore ways to integrate computational thinking into your science lessons in ways that are culturally relevant to all of your students. Participation in the study includes up to $3400 in compensation.


Who is ACT for?
Teachers and students in grades 1-5 exploring computational thinking in culturally relevant science lessons. Participating teachers learn about integrating computational thinking in science lessons in ways that are relevant to their own students, and which incorporate NGSS and ISTE standards. Participants then implement at least two lessons per academic year (for two years), with ACT researchers doing observations.

Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) ESEA Titles I-IV ConApp Phase II Application and Preliminary Allocations Released (reminder)
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides federal funding to ensure equal opportunity for all students. Under this program, OSSE issues Titles I-A, II-A, III-A and IV-A grants through its annual ESEA Consolidated Application (ConApp). The award period for the fiscal year 2023 (FY23) grants to local education agencies (LEAs) is July 1, 2022 through Sept. 30, 2023.  

 
LEAs' preliminary allocations for the FY23 ESEA Titles I-A, II-A, III-A and IV-A are available on OSSE’s website. The FY23 ESEA ConApp is available in the Enterprise Grants Management System (EGMSand due on Sept. 30, 2022 at 3 p.m. Details about each grant program under the ConApp are available on OSSE’s website.
