The Forestry Corner
August 2022

The Forestry Corner is a monthly collection of woodland-related events, resources and updates from OSU Extension for our neighbors in Marion, Clackamas and Hood River counties.
Emerald Ash Borer Detected in Oregon
On June 30, 2022, emerald ash borer (EAB), an exotic beetle that infests ash trees, was discovered in Forest Grove, Oregon, making the first confirmation of the invasive pest on the West Coast. In Oregon, the establishment of EAB could devastate whole habitat types dominated by Oregon ash.

OSU Extension recently released a compilation of resources to provide the basics on the situation and paths to more detailed information. You can also find resources as you continue to browse this month's Forestry Corner. Please get in touch if you have any questions about this emerging situation.

Prescribed Fire Basics: Why We Burn
Prescribed burning is the practice of intentional burning to obtain specific results. People practice prescribed fire to improve habitats and the health of forests. Differences in local ecology, management priorities and historical use call for different approaches.

More information can be found in the OSU Extension Fire Program publication EM 9339.
