ANNOUNCEMENTS:

July Vacations
Music Director Kia Sams will be away the rest of July.

Liturgists Needed
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to read in worship! We have openings for July 31 Zoom worship and all Sundays in August. Please sign up here or contact the church office or Louise Morehead to volunteer.

Summer Coffee Hour After a couple of years without coffee hour, here is a proposed schedule for the summer: July 10th and 24th, August 7th and 21st. Volunteers are needed to bring a simple snack and help clean up afterwards. If there is continued interest and volunteers to make it happen, we could have coffee hour every Sunday (except for the last Sunday of the month) beginning September 11th. Please let Judy Hooper know (206 325 2851) if you are interested in making coffee hour a part of our Sunday morning time again and if you are able to sign up for one of the summer dates.

Attention Prospect Quilters!

image of blue and yellow quiltThe north wall by the “Pray Ground” in the sanctuary needs some art to define the space as welcoming to children.  We’re asking help to make a quilted wall hanging, using yellow and blue to complement our beautiful stained glass windows. The finished product would be about 4’ by 3’ made up of 12 individual unique quilted squares.

Could you create one of those squares to contribute to this group project?  Anyone interested please plan to stay after church July 10 to do some brainstorming and we’ll have mounds of fabric scraps to choose from to take home.

Share Your Photos!
It's time to update the bulletin board of photos in the Fellowship Hall! If you have photos of recent Prospect events (e.g. clean-up day, coffee hour, farm day, or Cajun Celebration for the Climate), please share a few prints that we can post. You may mail them to the church or leave them in Karen's inbox in the office. If you are not able to print your photos, please send a small selection of digital images to prospectucc@yahoo.com.

Directory Update An updated church directory will be published in mid-July. If your contact information has changed, or you wish to be added to or removed from the directory, please contact the church office by Thursday, July 14. Thank you!

Deborah Dewey in Concert at Prospect: Friday, July 15 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, July 15, Deborah Dewey will play a concert of Chopin and Tcherepnin piano music. She requests donations to the Special Music Fund, which will be used to refurbish the piano and to pay musicians for future benefit concerts. You may donate online here or make checks payable to Prospect Congregational UCC and indicate "Special Music Fund" in the memo.
(If you can't make it on Friday, Deborah is also having an open rehearsal of the same program on Tuesday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m.)

Donations of Cell Phones, Tablets, and Laptops Requested
Maryalice Power shares the following announcement:
"My daughter Dr. Julliette Power and her friend Irma Schneider, a nurse, are both going to Rwanda in September to help with medical care. They are working at the Adventist University of Central Africa to help refugees from the Congo to obtain education and be able to move out of a cycle of dependency living in the camps. They are reaching out to solicit people who have old cell phones, tablets, or laptops that they would be willing to donate to help the students. Please call or email me (206-324-2483 or maryalicepower@hotmail.com) and I will pick them up or come to the church. Thank you."

Student looking for room to rent

The niece of good friends of Kyrie and Nate Cataldo is going to be attending college on Capitol Hill and is looking for a room to rent in someone’s home. She is very responsible and courteous and can afford between $600-$800 for a room in someone’s house. She is staying outside Seattle now and would like to find a place before school starts in the fall. If you have a room available, please contact Kyrie at kyrie_hooper@hotmail.com or 206-546-3231.

Action Alert from Be:Seattle

The Comprehensive Plan Update is a once a decade opportunity to increase housing options and affordability in Seattle by adjusting zoning regulations that dictate what types of buildings can be built on each block. Share The Cities Action Fund, 350 Seattle, Be:Seattle, Tech 4 Housing, and The Urbanist are asking for a 60-day extension for the scoping phase of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

Based on earlier published timelines, it appeared that the summer of 2022 would include outreach that would go toward shaping proposed EIS alternatives. Community members are confused by the limitation to specific alternatives at this time, and by the July 25th cutoff to effective public input. The limited concepts offered and short comment period are unnecessarily restrictive.

The One Seattle online engagement hub is intended as a step towards easy access for more people to engage in the wonky and opaque Comprehensive Plan. But some communities need a lot more time, help, and direct support to engage in this process. We hope that the Comprehensive Plan Scoping Phase's public feedback period will be extended from July 24, 2022 a total of 60 days, to Monday August 22, 2022.

You may write a letter asking for the extension HERE.
You may learn more about and comment on the Environmental Review HERE.

Schedule
Church staff continue to work remotely most days. Email and voicemail are checked regularly during office hours. Karen works 9 am to 1 pm Tuesday-Thursday and 10 am to 2 pm on Friday. Karen will usually be in the office on Fridays.

  2. Download the free Vanco Mobile app for IOS or Android.

    - Choose "Vanco Mobile Faith Engagement";
    - Select Prospect Congregational UCC;

    - Create an account using your email address. (If you already have online giving set up, you can sign in using your same login information on the app.)

  3. Text-to-give:
          - Text 833-297-5332 and enter the amount you wish to donate: $xx or $xx.xx;
          - Click the registration link and enter your payment information;
         - Receive a verification text as well as an email receipt. For future giving, simply send a text to the same number with the amount you wish to give, and your donation will process automatically. (Watch this GivePlus Text video to see how easy it is to make a quick donation.)

Vanco Payment Solutions' Client Services team will also take donations over the phone: 800.675.7430.

You may also set up automatic payment with your bank or mail checks to the church yourself. We encourage electronic payments because that is safer for our financial secretaries and puts the funds into our bank account more quickly.
