Stewardship Updates
Summer is in full swing and that means that our stewardship team is busy out in the field! As always, our focus is taking care of your conserved open spaces, trails, rivers, and wetlands, ensuring that these spaces can be treasured for generations to come. We hope to see you outside enjoying conserved spaces this summer!

Voluntary No-Float: Thank you for respecting the voluntary no-float period on the upper stretch of the Slate River during critical nesting times of our local Great Blue Heron population. While this no-float period ended on July 15, water flows are extremely low, and the Slate River Working Group recommends recreators do not float this stretch so as to avoid trespassing on private property in the area.

Monitoring: Every year our stewardship team monitors nearly 6,000 acres of land. Whether the Land Trust owns the title or a conservation easement, we monitor the land to ensure that all conservation values are being upheld and that the best care possible is given to these landscapes.

Long Lake: We are working towards creating sustainable recreation and management solutions for your beloved public recreational resource, Long Lake. We’ve also been working on identifying trails for use, mitigating erosion, and creating wide bench cut trails which will be handcycle accessible. Keep an eye out for changes up at Long Lake later this summer.

Noxious Weeds: Our stewardship team has been hosting volunteer work days geared towards managing weeds in aquatic and wetland areas where spraying cannot occur.  By controlling weeds along the river banks, we not only protect Land Trust land from invasive plants, we also prevent those plants from working their way downstream to other lands. Join us for our next weed pulling day on July 28! Email jessica@cblandtrust.org for more details.
