WELCOME
Boundless - God Beyond Measure
In a world that has become increasingly chaotic, there's one place where time is frozen. Tucked away from the distractions of technology, summer camp at Green Lake Lutheran Ministries (GLLM) provides caring staff, and beautiful outdoor spaces to allow children and youth of all ages to connect with God. Holy Trinity is on its second generation of GLLM attendees, thanks to Jackie Mackenthun who served as Bible Camp Coordinator.

Jackie stepped into the role in 2019 while Holy Trinity was seeking their first full-time Youth Director. "I never got to go to any kind of camp growing up, and I really wanted my children to have that experience. Everybody I know that grew up going to a church camp has great memories and loved it." Jackie offered to organize attendees until a Youth Director was hired as she wanted to send her oldest daughter regardless. Her first attempt was foiled in 2020 by COVID, so GLLM credited families towards a 2021 camp experience. Jackie's daughter, Quinn, and her friend, Lauren, attended GLLM for a half-week session in 2021 and had a blast. "The girls were very clear they wanted to do a whole week the next year", Jackie states. They even made a fun promotional video to get more kids to attend in 2022.

Quinn and Lauren's video clearly worked. Holy Trinity had 12 students attend GLLM during the last week of June! Jackie again took the reigns of organizing the registration. "I would have let [former Director of Children, Youth & Family Ministries] Casey [Fremstad] run with organizing camp for this year, but she was leaving at the same time we needed to get in on any early-bird discounts. Since I had experience with GLLM already, and felt strongly about getting in on the early-bird discounts to keep costs down for all families, I took it on again this year," Jackie reports. Her familiarity with GLLM camp registration, and the excitement from her daughter made it an easy decision to add it to her already full plate of working full-time, being a wife and mother, and newly elected HTLC Council President! (THANK YOU, JACKIE!)

Lauren Petersen joined the HTLC staff as Director of Children, Youth & Family Ministry in February, and was able to attend camp the entire week with the HTLC students. "I have never been to a bible camp before. Jackie Mackenthun was so awesome, and set up the whole experience for all the campers, so I really didn't know what to expect! I was a little nervous since I didn't know some of the students or any of the other resource staff going," Lauren replies. It didn't take long for her nerves to disappear. "I reconnected with a few people I have crossed paths with and made some new friends as well. The weather was beautiful, and it was so fun to see the students from all the churches interact with each other and have a blast. I also learned how to make bracelets!"

Bible Camp Highlights

Here's what the students said about their experience at Green Lake Bible Camp.

Taylor F: Wow! I loved my week at Green Lake Bible Camp. At first I was super nervous but by the end of camp I didn’t want to leave. My favorite parts of camp were either swimming in the deep waters or paddle boarding with new friends. I give camp 9.8/10...it was awesome!

Ingrid S: My biggest apprehension: Not knowing if I knew anyone else in my cabin. Also, being safe since kids couldn’t take a personal phone to contact parents in case something happens, like getting kidnapped. I'd give camp an 8/10 because I couldn’t sleep in and the bathrooms were not great, but everything else was awesome. I liked the games the best, especially “Whoop Whoop!”

Lizzie J: Lizzie told her parents that she was nervous about going the full week, so she did a half week. She gave her first camp experience a 6/10, and the best part was making new friends.

Quinn M:  I wasn't too nervous about going as it was my 2nd year going to camp. I was mostly excited! I give it 10/10. I really liked my counselor and being in the water. All of the counselors are really funny. One night our counselor took us on a "cookie raid" in the kitchen, and another counselor was there to be goofy and pretend to scare us. It was really fun. They had new water misters this year so we could cool off from the hot weather.

Elliana C: I was nervous to be away from home for the first time, but I really enjoyed the food at camp. I also liked playing carpet ball and 9 square. I give camp 8/10 because I had to wake up so early and go to bed so late.

Evan C: I was nervous that camp would tell me what to believe about church and God. I was glad they gave me guidance but allowed me to come up with my own ideas about God. I give Bible Camp a 9/10 - I liked doing the tie-dye, swimming and campfires.
