Please join the Office of Community Services (OCS) and the CSBG Tribal TTA team for a live FY 2023 CSBG Tribal Plan & Application Reminders & FAQs Webinar on August 4 at 2:00pm Eastern to help current and prospective Tribal grant recipients prepare their FY 2023 CSBG Tribal Plans & Applications. The OCS Tribal team will be available to answer questions. Register today!

CARES Act & FY 2021 Spending Deadlines


The Goal: 100% of CSBG and CARES Act funds invested in Tribal communities to meet the needs of low-income individuals and families, as well as the organizations that serve them.

Need help ensuring that every dollar is obligated in advance of the September 30, 2022 obligation deadline?

Here are three steps you can take today:
  1. Contact the CSBG Tribal TTA Team at tribalta@luxcg.com or 301-325-3557 for 1:1 support. We are happy to review allowable expenditures and talk through the possibilities with you.
  2. Download the slide deck from the Maximizing the Impact of CSBG Regular & CARES Act Supplemental Funding webinar for quick tips and ideas on expending regular CSBG & CARES Act funding.
  3. Watch the Maximizing the Impact of CSBG Regular & CARES Act Supplemental Funding webinar recording for complete details on expenditure ideas and examples from your colleagues in the CSBG Tribal Network. 

Here are just a few of the ways CSBG dollars can be utilized that were highlighted in the session: 
  • Consumer Supports - food, school supplies, transportation - gas, car repairs/maintenance, and public transportation cards
  • Children & Youth Activities - summer camps, sports, culture & arts camps, language schools, and scholarships
  • Emergency/Crisis Assistance - collaborations with LIHEAP, LIHWAP, ERA
  • Employment and Job Training - enhanced childcare access to support employment, collaboration with other programs, training enrollment fees
  • Health and Wellness Activities - doctor visit co-pays, transportation expenses, 
  • Housing - rent, mortgage and utility assistance, and repairs
  • Organizational Capacity - training, support, organizational preparedness, upgrading policies and procedures
  • Pop Up Events - food distribution, baby items, school supplies
  • Tribal Small Business Supports - PPE to childcare centers/homes, coaching to low-income entrepreneurs, and mentorship programs
  • Technology - improved capacity for organization, families, and students
  • Community/Client Engagement - Pay low-income clients or independent contractor to hold focus groups to assess post-pandemic needs, conduct door-to-door community outreach campaigns, or establish robust client advisory groups

HHS Annual Regional Tribal Consultations

The 2022 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Annual Regional Tribal Consultation sessions will be held virtually and in-person, with an opportunity to provide written testimony to HHS by e-mail. These sessions are designed for Tribal leaders to have the opportunity to address HHS on how HHS can improve Tribal outreach and coordination, and to discuss programmatic and policy issues and concerns with Tribes.

The Tribal Consultation remaining dates are:

  • July 19-20, 2022: HHS Region 5
  • July 26–28, 2022: HHS Region 9
  • August 16–17, 2022: HHS Region 6
  • August 22–24, 2022: HHS Region 10

Tribal Vaccine Outreach Video

Lux Consulting Group, Inc. partnered with The National Community Action Partnership (NCAP) to promote COVID-19 vaccine outreach and improve vaccination confidence in Tribal communities. NCAP identified video messaging as one of the easiest and more powerful ways to disseminate accurate information about COVID-19 vaccines. Lux developed one 60-second video to enhance widespread support for COVID-19 vaccine efforts for Tribes, Tribal Organizations, and Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Tribal grant recipients.

8/22 - 8/26: World Water Week

The Office of Community Services (OCS) released Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) OCS-DCL-2022-14 today announcing that OCS will host the second annual series of events in observance of World Water Week, August 22 - 26, 2022. Each day, from 2:00pm-3:30pm Eastern, you will be able to hear from a wide array of grant recipients, water and wastewater experts, and environmental justice and climate change activists.

Thank you for the commitment to the Office of Community Services, and the service to individuals, children and families in communities across the nation.

8/31 - 9/2: NCAP 2022 Annual Convention

Register Today! The NCAP Annual Convention will be held August 31 - September 2, 2022 in New York City, NY. The convention will be designed to provide Community Action Agency professionals and Tribal grant recipients the latest policy and programmatic updates as well as management and governance tools. Special emphasis will be placed on effective strategies for transforming communities and changing the lives of Community Action customers.

Tribal grant recipients are being offered a discounted NCAP member rate. The discount code "EARLYBIRD1" will ensure the member rate is received throughout the registration timeline. For information on how to create an account in NCAP's new association management system/register for the convention, please visit the conference webpage, and scroll down to the “Registration” section.

7/21: Financial Literacy for Native Youth Webinar

Join the Administration for Native Americans Pacific Region Training and Technical Assistance Center as they host Ed Grocholski, Chief Marketing Officer for Junior Achievement (JA) USA, who will share examples of how JA is working with Indigenous and Tribal communities in several states to help promote financial literacy, and how there is great potential with creating future community partners closer and working closer with more Indigenous and Tribal communities. As part of this presentation, Ed will also explain how JA programs are delivered, the impact they have, and how to engage with Junior Achievement in local communities. The webinar will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 3:00pm Eastern.

Junior Achievement (JA) is one of the country’s leading non-profit economic education organizations. Each year, JA delivers lessons on financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship to more than 2.5 million students in grades K through 12 (ages 5-18), in 103 communities throughout the United States, including Alaska, Hawai'i, and Guam.
