PPDC through our VOICE-supported project held a roundtable discussion with representatives living in area councils of the FCT, government agencies like Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) etc and the media.
The discussion provided a forum for citizens to share details about their communities' deplorable state of schools and primary health centers (PHCs), as well as for government agencies to provide short and long-term solutions.
When our community-based monitors began sharing information from their monitoring of health and education projects in FCT area councils, there was more bad news than good. Some complained that they lacked access to electricity and were understaffed, while others said they lacked toilet facilities, potable water, and adequate equipment. Community members were also present to corroborate their stories.
After the sharing of reports, government agencies in their response began to state that the major issue they face is lack of funding and that however, there are some existing plans to curb the poor state of projects.
