Talking Trash

The latest episode of the 'Beaconites!' podcast, 'Talking Trash (And Composting) with Amber Grant,' is an interview with our former City Councilperson and incredible champion for composting in Beacon.

Amber gives tons of information about the City of Beacon's composting pilot program, which is now in progress.

You'll also hear:
  • Reason to have hope about zoning in Beacon
  • Who needs to step up on solving the climate crisis
  • How to get free help with energy efficiency
  • Where did the plastic bag recycling bins go
  • How can your freezer help you compost?
Composting is a great way to reduce the waste burned at the county incinerator, which can result in the release of harmful chemicals and pollutants. The 6-month 'Beacon Composts' pilot program is running from April 14th – October 15th. Watch this how-to video on composting in your yard, and this video on using Beacon's 3 free drop-off points for your household foods scraps.

Apart from recycling your food scraps, AKA composting, another way to shrink our collective waste stream is to shop at a refill store to help avoid single-use products, while saving money in the long run. There are two new refill shops in our area and two more coming soon are coming soon. Learn more in this Highlands Current article.

Thank you to Zach Rodgers of the Beaconites! podcast and Marc Ferris from the Highlands Current for spreading the word about these important things we can all do.
