Wanna spoon?

July is a time to celebrate our fav food group: ice cream. Scooped into a dish, pulled into the perfect soft serve cone, eaten straight from the pint, sprinkled or plain, it's got us dripping with delight. Ahoy, National Ice Cream Month. Let's set sail on this ocean of flavor.

Forward this to someone who has zero chill.

SPONSORED BY GREENSBORO'S FARMERS CURB MARKET

Got that bacon energy

We loved Bacon in Footloose, but this weekend, we'll take it at the Greensboro's Farmers Curb Market's Annual BLT Celebration. From 8:30–11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, Chef Denzell Berry — whose flips rival Ren McCormack's — will dish out Neese's sizzling bacon strips, crisp lettuce and sliced fresh market tomatoes, served between thick half slices of Piedmont International Bakery sourdough bread slathered with Duke's mayo. Into side character summer? Cucumber and tomato salad has your back. Crunch into your sammie to the acoustic sounds of Colin Cutler's musical storytelling, making this an event that tickles all five senses. Your $10 plate supports fresh food security programs — and ya' belly.

SPONSORED BY EASTERN MUSIC FESTIVAL

String us a song, piano man

When you add a world-renowned pianist to an epic orchestra, it just strikes a different chord. At 8 p.m., Saturday, July 9, Santiago Rodriguez, who's "among the finest pianists in the world," according to the Baltimore Sun, joins Maestro Gerard Schwarz and the Eastern Festival Orchestra on stage at the Tanger Center for an evening of Unity. All of these talented musicians will come together to stir up some good treble in a show that is sure to be a clef-hanger! The Eastern Music Festival is not your bass-ic event. Catch the rest of its happenings now through July 30.

Movie right along

Stay cool this month with a favorite outdoor activity: going back inside. At 7 p.m. on Monday, July 11, The Carolina Theatre kicks off its month-long Summer Film Fest. Each week, the schedule is filled with nostalgic blockbuster hits that take you back to the days of being kind and rewinding.

It's happening

The Happening is an event that shows off the latest works by Elsewhere Museum's artists in residence from 6–8 p.m., Friday, July 8. Where else can you find unique art that pushes the envelope?

Our fav school subject is recess

From 6–9 p.m., Friday, July 8, Adult Recess returns to the Barber Park Sprayground for a night of bubbles, splashing and music to show off those moves — the sprinkler, anyone? Food and beverage vendors will be on site serving up dishes your lunch lady only dreamed about.

Wake us up before you go-grow

Got gardening questions? Don't ask us — we're currently grieving our dead desk-top succulent. From 9 a.m.–noon, Saturday, July 9, swing by the Ask a Master Gardener booth at the Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. Bring your shadiest questions.

Scene and heard

At 7 p.m., Saturday, July 9, High Point Theatre welcomes First Lady  — not as in Jackie or Michelle O. — to the stage. This play is a true story about domestic violence and mental health within the church.

Use to our ad-vintage

You know it's not the same as it was . . . it's better! What's old is new — and what's cold is the brew — at the Full Circle Vintage Market at Oden Brewing from noon–4 p.m., Saturday, July 9.

Treble makers

Here in Music Gate City, live concerts and musical happenings abound this week. With all these shows, you'll be gettin' around more than our Uber driver.

  • Your "Teen Angst" might be more like midlife crisis at this point, but Cracker's music hits the same. Catch 'em at Ziggy's Space in High Point at 7 p.m., Friday, July 8.

Eye knows what you did last summer

O.Henry’s very own contributing writer, Billy [Eye] Ingram, has recently gone to print with his latest book, Eye on GSO, taking readers through a collection of essays which intertwine the historical happenings of our beloved city with Billy’s own Gate City wanderings. Flipping through the pages of Eye on GSO feels more like a comically vulnerable conversation between the past and present rather than your typical guide to all things Greensboro.

Relocation package

If you've got a heart for old things that need love — um, have you met our Uncle Randy? — we've got a historic home that needs saving! The Emma and Florence Monroe house on N. Greene Street is a 3,000 ft. classic four square home in need of moving before, as Chip & Jojo would say, "It's demolition day!" Admittedly, this house needs a lot. Literally, it needs to be relocated to a whole new piece of property to sit upon to carry on its legacy. Contact Preservation Greensboro's Development Fund and be the hero you were born to be.

When we sip, you sip, we stretch

The only thing we're skilled at stretching is the truth, but we're here for anything that involves someone who calls herself "The Sangria Lady." Stretch + Sip with yoga, mocktails, snacks and vendors at Esposito fitness from 3–6 p.m., Sunday, July 10.

Rise Sleep in & shine

It's the 5K that with all the glowing reviews! At 8:45 p.m., Saturday, July 9, the Greensboro Moonlight Bootlegger takes you along candlelit trails, following the sounds of music all the way to the finish line, where moonshine and bluegrass await. If you've ever wanted to run with the wolves, take your shot.

Run together, right now, over us

Together We Stand NC invites you to run — we thought you said stand? — in the Unity 5K at 8 a.m., Sunday, July 10, beginning at Fleet Feet. Everything is just running together now.

Thunder from down under

On Friday, July 8, Thor: Love & Thunder crashes into movie theaters across America and you better believe we'll be sitting in front of that screen as Thor and Jane save the world. It may not be the most en-lightning film, but it's sure to be charged with excitement. And did we mention the electrifying Chris Hemsworth?
