Community Behavioral Health and Social Determinants

DSAMH’s Community Behavioral Health and Social Determinants Bureau reduces barriers to engaging in treatment services and sustaining long-term recovery by addressing social determinants of health. Individuals in the recovery community have voiced frustration with finding reliable transportation for appointments. One person left his home at 4:30 AM each morning and walked for miles to a bus stop to reach a treatment center to receive Medication for Opiate Use Disorder (MOUD). We know the importance of capitalizing on one’s willingness to seek treatment, which has led us to contract DTRN Rideshare (powered by RoundTrip). We are testing the service in partnership with the Sussex County provider network and DSAMH direct services. To date, 2,895 rides have been scheduled with DTRN Rideshare, providing seamless access to travel to much-needed transportation to treatment centers, medical appointments, and non-emergency medical facilities. Adding this resource has led to positive outcomes for our clients and drawn national attention to DTRN’s innovative integration of RoundTrip.

DTRN RideShare Pilot

The DTRN Rideshare pilot has been live for 8 weeks in Sussex County.  We are learning a lot about the service and how to execute the program state-wide this fall.  Below are some preliminary numbers from the volume.  We will share lessons learned in the next newsletter as we prepare for the statewide rollout.
