Circularity experts gather in Apeldoorn to know more about “INFURI”, the Erasmus+ project striving for a more sustainable furniture industry

On April, 5th 2022 Wittenborg University of Applied Science hosted an international event entitled 'Circularity in furniture industry: Co-creating a transition system' in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, in the frame of the INFURI project.

The event welcomed over 30 international students and teachers, as well as companies and education and training centres’ representatives working in the furniture sector, including some of the project partners (CIAPE and Materially from Italy, STEP from Slovenia). Other consortium members joined the event online due to Covid19 restrictions. The attendees shared best practices in circular furniture and created fruitful links for future collaborations and synergies within the project and beyond, so to facilitate the development of a strong ecosystem on circularity and contribute to furniture companies’ competitive advantage on the market.

The event was made even more solemn thanks to the speech of a representative of the Dutch Erasmus+ National Agency, who presented to the participants the objectives of the most famous and appreciated EU’s funding programme, and in particular the opportunities offered by Key Action 2 to individuals and organisations.

On the event’s side-lines, the partnership had the opportunity to held the first face-to-face transnational project meeting, discussing the state of play of the MOOC “Managing a furniture company in the era of circular economy” and setting deadlines for its finalisation, outlining the work on the relevant “Book of lectures”. Both outputs are conceived as Open Educational Resources available via https://www.infuri.org/results.htm so for industry representatives, incubators and business intermediary organizations to use the project’s results for the continuous support of its associated or incubated companies in order to ensure the sustainability of their entrepreneurial projects in the field of circularity and/or to increase the innovation potentials of their approaches to circularity.

Finally, the meeting was the occasion for the partners to launch the planning of the next multiplier event and transnational meeting to be organised in Greece in October.

Started on December 1st, 2020, under ERASMUS+ program, INFURI Project is developed to help the furniture industry in the implementation of the Circular Economy Action Plan.
