 We should all see just how dangerous is the game the Fed is playing right now. It is your retirement account, along with everyone else's, that the Fed is using to try to rein in runaway inflation. Success could mean (reining it in by) crashing the nominal value of your investments. Failure could mean (allowing inflation to run out of control) destroying the purchasing power of the dollars invested in them. Either way, investors will learn that risk is not merely volatility but the potential for permanent loss, in both nominal and real terms.
