NEW ADULT SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY
“In This Refulgent Summer” - Emerson and Unitarian Universalism
Facilitated by Rev. Rob Hardies
Wednesdays at 10 am at Stevens Chapel (or backyard): July 6, 13, 27, August 3, 10
To register, email Rev. Rob at revrobuusmv@gmail.com
Over five weeks this summer we will read key religious and spiritual works by Unitarian minister and Transcendentalist philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson. We will use Emerson’s work as a window into learning about the important spiritual and theological insights of our Unitarian Universalist tradition. Participants will need to purchase a copy of David Robinson’s, The Spiritual Emerson, published by the UUA’s Beacon Press. The books are $20 and will be available from the church office beginning Sunday June 26th. (If the cost is a barrier, just let me know and we can cover the costs of the book.)

Technology Assistance
We are happy to report we have been improving the AV system every week.  Andy has made some changes to the system to enhance the audio quality during live singing performances, something we have been struggling with for awhile.  We appreciate your patience!  Ann Cilfone is willing to help anyone who has questions regarding the quality of their Zoom experience.  Give her a call at the Chapel 508-693-8982 or email her at uu.society.mv@gmail.com for assistance.

Welcome Reverend Janet Newton

We have uploaded Reverend Janet's video and our letter to the UUSMV community.  Visit our member page to view and see updates from the Minister Search Team.  www.uusmv.com

T-Shirt Project
Dear friends,
The time has come to live our values out loud-once again!

We are organizing a t-shirt making and installation that will center reproductive rights for all women and is in response and protest to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade. We will have everything needed to write your message in support of reproductive rights on a t-shirt that will be hung on a clothesline in the church’s front yard.  We ask you to bring a t-shirt, old or new, different sizes and colors preferred! You can turn an old t-shirt inside out also!
We will have waterproof markers for cloth.  We need the old-fashioned wire coat hangers and clothesline-if you have and can donate, please let Rita know. We also need a few poles to put in the ground to support the clothesline and shirts.
The coat hanger serves as a symbol of the reproductive rights movement and a reminder of the gruesome pre-Roe era. Unfortunately, it will now serve as a reminder of the post-Roe era. It symbolizes a desperate last resort for women who have been denied legal abortion services.
Anyone is welcome to drop in and write your message on your t-shirt with your friends. We will invite the community, so feel free to bring a friend or too.

The messages need to be large enough to be read from the street. No profanity or graphic language, please.
Drop
in on Thursday July 28 from 1-3 pm or Saturday July 30 from 10 am-2 pm. You may also make one at home and someone will pick it up from you or you can drop it off at the church. (Universal justice volunteers will make final decisions on appropriate messages and will do all of the hanging.)

Climate resolution for 2022
The U.N. head warned that Earth is “sleepwalking”  to climate catastrophe." Secretary General Antonio Guterros said the goals world leaders agreed on to limit global warning are on “life support”.

Help Write Postcards to Voters
We are honoring John Lewis by working to become a Good Trouble congregation and writing non-partisan postcards to under-represented voters is one way we will get in Good Trouble.  Join us in the air-conditioned chapel to write postcards on Tuesday, July 12, at 3 pm.  We’ll convene again on Wednesday, July 20.  We will provide postcards for writing at home if that’s easier for you.  Stay tuned!

Massachusetts Moves to Protect Our Democracy
A huge thank you to everyone who wrote emails, letters, and made phone calls to support the VOTES Act!
Governor Baker signed the VOTES Act into law this week, expanding access to the ballot in Massachusetts.
The VOTES Act will make several permanent changes to Massachusetts’ election laws, including:
  • allowing voters to vote by mail without an excuse;
  • expanding early voting options;
  • making sure that eligible voters who are incarcerated are able to request a mail ballot and vote;
  • ensuring that the Commonwealth joins the 30-state Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) to keep voter registration rolls up-to-date;
  • and more.
The bill also reduces the voter registration deadline prior to an election from twenty days to ten.
