Beware of hurricane season

Grounds and Building Services prepared on adverse weather, especially what to do during the hurricane season. Be prepared and have a plan to stay during a hurricane. In case of an inclement weather issue, call the Adverse Weather and Emergency Condition Hotline at 919-513-8888. Review the hurricane safety guideline here.

Campus bloom with savings

Grounds Services is saving money while helping our campus bloom. Utilizing flowers and plants grown in their own campus greenhouse, Grounds Services incorporates a mix of pollinator-friendly and tropicals to provide punches of color throughout campus. The greenhouse project, sponsored by the NC State Sustainability Fund, has allowed Grounds Services to avoid purchasing more expensive plants from wholesalers and instead grow their own from plugs and cuttings. This process provides cost savings over time as well, as the team can grow year-round according to campus needs versus what is available in stores. Learn More. Thank you from a parent of a student

If you haven't noticed yet, there is a blue piano sitting outside under the Oval tent. The Grounds & Building Services team was responsible for transporting the 100 years old piano to the site. A parent of a student in the engineering program sent a personal thank you note to show their family's appreciation of the piano installation. The student shared how "the piano and the community it has built have contributed to a positive social experience on campus and supported his mental health through the aftermath of the pandemic isolation." Watch more about the piano story here.

Energy System's professional devleopment

Energy Systems leaders continued the department's maintenance
professional development program with presentations and discussions related to District Energy and decoupled HVAC systems. The Facilities Division operates and maintains five central District Energy plants and has three buildings with decoupled HVAC systems (and two more in the design phase).  Professional discussions help share best practices among maintenance and operations experts and reinforce the integration among the central plants, the utility distribution system, and the building systems to reliably and efficiently meet campus needs. The professional development event included tours of both Hunt Library building systems and Centennial Campus Utility Plant.
The Digest consolidates recent news and announcements into one resource.
