Dear friends and partners,

This past school year may have ended, but our work to keep kids learning and make progress for LA Unified isn’t taking a vacation. I’ve been thrilled to join in some of the fun as the District kicked off its largest summer program yet – with instructional courses, wide-ranging enrichment opportunities, and summer camp options available for every student from pre-K to 12th grade.

Lat week, the Board also approved an ambitious new Strategic Plan as well as next year’s budget. I have long been advocating for a clear, transparent Strategic Plan, and was happy to see a document that lays out specific priorities and actions to drive progress and measure success in our school communities.

It is also exciting to see this new plan guided by existing Board goals, informed by community input, and aligned with the District's budget. The $18.5B budget includes targeted investments to drive academic progress and support joy and wellness in our school communities – with more tutoring services and academic support, social emotional learning, greening and outdoor education, enrichment opportunities, dual language programs, parent engagement, workforce development, and school safety.

A new chapter is unfolding in LA Unified, and we will keep working to ensure that these investments and action plans put our students and our school communities on the path to success.
