Sharing the Gospel and Our Lives: June 2022

El Cacalote, Mexico
We are halfway through our first week here at Roca Blanca Spanish Mission School (RBSS), and we are so excited to share with you the Glory Stories which the Lord has already allowed us to be a part of.

We transitioned from our full-time positions with the Pipefitting Union and Mayo Clinic at the beginning of June.

During the middle of June, we spent a week at i6eight, deepening our relationships with those at the feeding center, Pan de Vida, and the surrounding community. At the advice of another missionary couple at i6eight, Ashley and Ryan, we dedicated ourselves to spending time with people even if we didn't feel like we were able to do anything "productive". As a direct result of this recommendation, Fahren was invited to join Nallely, Teresita, and a neighbor in doing an exercise video after we had cleaned up the morning meal at Pan de Vida. We were pleased to share our very lives.

One evening, we had a birthday party with Nallely, Teresita, and their families. Fahren tried to cook a Thai-inspired spicy peanut lentil dish for them. While the birthday cake was definitely a hit, the lentil dish received mixed reviews. Note to self...Thai flavors might be a bit too different from those typically used in Mexican cooking.

Our hearts ached as we needed to end our short stay in Puerto Peñasco. But even this sadness in leaving served as an encouragement, because we saw the love God has given us for this community.
Visit with Rene, Dora, and their dog, Luna. Rene spent at least an hour teaching Taylor how to pronounce all the letters in the Spanish alphabet. Dora shared with Fahren how to cook the local fish.
On June 13th, we left for language school. Our trip was a grueling but safe one. We were graciously assisted by i6eight board member, Paul Boyer, in our 4.5 hour drive from Puerto Peñasco to Hermosillo. From there, our flight took us to Mexico City and then down to Puerto Escondido where we got to meet RBSS Director, Dave Nelson. All in all, our travel day was ~30 hours with some (very) short naps. Needless to say, we slept very well that night!

The first few days of our stay in Puerto Cacalote have been a whirlwind of change. We have been blessed to be invited to live with our dear family members in Christ, Luis and Lidia. Luis is a bricklayer and pastor, Lidia a chef. As long time desert-rats, the daily deluges of rain, constant battling of biting insects, and 80%+ humidity have been a major adjustment, but we could not be happier.

It has been an indescribable joy to join in relationship with the men and women at this school. Our spiritual family here at RBSS is incredibly diverse, with students coming from all over the world, from South Korea to South Africa. They have a variety of ministry backgrounds, some with decades-worth of experience in ministering to the nations.

Prayer Needs:
1. That the Lord would keep our eyes focused on what is not seen and prioritizing Him even above "good things" like school and cultural experiences.
2. That our hearts would continue to be filled to overflowing with love both for the people here, but also in Puerto Peñasco.
3. That the Great Physician would heal the pain caused by our separation from family and friends, both in our hearts and theirs.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
El Señor te beniga y te cuide

i6eight is a gospel proclaiming, disciple making, compassion ministry that lives for the glory of God and the good of others. We exist to invest in the physical, relational, and spiritual lives of the people we serve. Our programs cover a wide range of needs, including education, housing, clothing, health care, nutrition, and community. We accomplish this by training, serving, and discipling together.  The ultimate goal of each program is to see the people we serve fall in love with and worship Jesus Christ.

Pan de Vida is one such program which strives to satisfy spiritual needs as well as physical hunger for the glory of Jesus. Taylor and Fahren will join Pan de Vida in the hopes of seeing God transform hearts through Biblical training and life-on-life discipleship.
