Simon and Jane's Coast to Coast Trek

Quadram Institute scientist Professor Simon Carding and wife Jane are Walking for IiMER.
Walking across England on a 190 mile walk from St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hoods Bay on the east coast.
Already Jane and Simon have beaten their Just Giving target - but there is more time still to publicise this and raise more funds for research and more awareness of ME.
Please help us publicise this over the next week - all funds raised are directed to biomedical research at - you guessed it - the leading UK research centre for ME.

Quadram have highlighted this - click here

#InvestinMEresearch

The name of the charity is Invest in ME Research. For a long time this was as much a statement, a call to action, as it was an identifier of a charity determined to bring forth change to the stale and establishment-biased environment that had been permitted to exist for so many years.
Yet, from the time that we began bringing in a nucleus of international researchers together in our conferences and later research colloquium – and when we initiated the proposal for a UK/European Centre of Excellence for ME – this has become more and more a fact and a strategy.
Now the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) has awarded a grant of £500,000 to build and equip a new facility at the Quadram Institute that meets Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

Further confidence in the centre for ME research.

Javid Announcement
It is excellent that more are becoming aware of the possibilities and opportunities with the development of the centre for research into ME in Norwich Research Park - a location that has all of the facilities for world class research into ME.
We expect to have more investment in the research in the research park and will be discussing with Quadram future plans over the summer.

As more acknowledgement of the progress being made at the centre in Norwich is given then we hope that Secretary of State for Health Savid Javid's recently announced a plan to "drive high-quality applications for research into ME/CFS and support the research community to build capacity and capability in this field" will not ignore what is right before his eyes.
As this time this plan had not involved the researchers at the Norwich centre whom IiMER have been funding or considered what has been achieved - but we assume it will not be possible to ignore what IiMER supporters have already facilitated.
The need for world class research into ME is urgent and has been throughout the years where these initiatives have come and gone - but how is this latest development to be viewed?

Movement for Good Award to IiMER
Thanks to our great supporters who voted for the charity IiMER has won another £1000 award from Movement for Good - from the Benefact Group.
All of this award goes to biomedical research into ME.
TESCO Hero - Mike Harley
Mike Harley has been named as a Tesco Jubilee Hero!! (1 of 70 in the UK) which was given for his amazing efforts in completing his EU Marathon challenge, that raised £44k for the charity's funded research.
The award was £700 to spend at Tesco. Mike and wife Kat are expecting their second child soon so this will be helpful - but still comes nowhere near to the cost that Mike and his family have borne over the years of his marathons, where he paid all expenses himself.
Well deserved.
