Take Action with Count Us In: Walk & Cycle More!

Making meaningful changes to your daily travel can help to address climate change while improving your life. Even short journeys by car can significantly add to traffic congestion and pollution, and cost significantly more as fuel costs continue to rise.

There are lots of ways to avoid the car. Walking or riding a bicycle can improve your mental and physical health and also help to find new perspectives on your local area. For longer journeys, taking the bus, train, or sharing lifts/car-pooling can minimize pollution while also taking the stress out of the trip (you don’t have to worry about road dangers and parking, and can pass the time with an activity you enjoy like reading).

However you choose to do it, making changes to the way you get around can cut your carbon footprint, improve your neighbourhood and leave you feeling healthier and happier. With such a simple step to try to take during this warmer weather, it’s easy to see why Walk & Cycle More is one of Count Us In’s 16 steps that have the most impact to reduce your carbon footprint.

Our resources to inspire you share a wealth of information about options and ideas to think differently about local travel and are well timed to celebrate the opening of the Cottonmill Community and Cycling Hub, where you can get your bike fixed up ready for the summer!

Speakers available!

Would your organisation, group or business like to learn more about Climate Change, reducing carbon footprints and how to work together to help St Albans reach net zero by 2030? Climate Champion volunteers have been recruited from across the community to inform and encourage groups across the District. They are available to help raise awareness about the climate emergency and practical action that can make a big difference to carbon footprints. This could be an informal lunchtime discussion to engage employees or an evening presentation to your club or society, from specific topics to general awareness-raising.

For more information about booking a Climate Champion for your event or what kind of subjects we could cover, please get in touch!

Money Movers Workshops for Women

Wednesday evenings September 7, 21 & October 5
In person in St Albans

Calling all women who care what kind of a future they are supporting!

Did you know that where we bank and invest our money, and how we manage our finances are key ways in which we can impact our planet? Money Movers is a movement of women taking action together to green their finances and invest responsibly.

These workshops will provide guidance and support, with no financial advice, to begin the work of aligning our money with our values. We will support one another in sharing experiences and encouraging and inspiring financial change in our own lives.
