NAIDOC Week in the City
NAIDOC week starts on Sunday 3 July and the City is holding a range of activities to mark the occasion.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for Australians from all walks of life to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year there will be a Smoking Ceremony and Flag Raising on 6 July, followed by a light morning tea. All members of the community are welcome to attend this free event. No bookings required.
Proud Noongar woman and artist, Seantelle Walsh, will add to the celebration by painting the front doors of the Administration Centre.
Subiaco Library will be hosting events all week beginning with a free special performance by Yirra Yaakin on Monday 4 July. Bilya Kaatijin (which means “Fresh Water Knowledge” in Noongar) is the final story in Yirra Yaakin’s Kaatijin series connecting stories from Noongar land to around the world, teaching of the importance of water for First Nations people.
