What's New?

Monday is July 4th - the Museum will be closed. Did you know that the Museum is open on most holidays except Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day?

It's a few months away yet, but our auction committee is hard at work making plans and securing items for our 19th Chair-ity Auction, Sept 2-10th! If you, or a business you know, is interested in sponsoring the event or donating an item, please contact Cate Anderson via email at Cate@skagitcm.org or by phone at 360-770-9746.

Our Summer Camps are getting more and more full! If you've been waiting to sign up, do it soon! Classes with the most openings include:

  • Camping & Survival Skills (6 & up) From pitching a tent to exploring the night sky, let the museum be your campground as we learn how the basics for safe and enjoyable camping in the great outdoors!
  • Tie-Dye Creations (4 & up) Learn how to make your own tie-dyed creations in this fun camp. We will make t-shirts, tote bags, sock, and other fun textiles into works of art using two different dye methods. If you have anything of your own you’d like to tie-dye, bring it along!
  • Art Week (4 & up) The perfect camp for young artists! We will spend a week exploring different artistic mediums and learning about inspiring artists. Come with clothes ready to get a little messy and create!
  • Birds of the Pacific Northwest (4 & up) Come and learn about the huge variety of birds that can be found right here in Skagit County! Create bird art projects, make a bird feeder and go on a short bird watching adventure walk!
  • Clay, Glaze, and Firing (6 & up) Dig in and experience the magic of ceramics in this 4-session camp. Pieces will be glazed and fired before taking them home!
  • Big S.T.E.A.M. (6 & up) For the older ones-fun activities focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math all intersect with Art in this week-long camp!
  • Little S.T.E.A.M. (3-6) For the little ones-fun activities focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math all intersect with Art in this week-long camp!
  • Pioneer Life (AM: Ages 4+, All Day: Ages 7+) Pioneer Life camp will be held at the Skagit City School located at 17508 Moore Road, Mount Vernon in partnership with the Skagit County Historical Museum! Campers will explore the Pioneer lifestyle in an authentic setting by playing old-time games, make corn husk dolls, bake bread & corn muffins, churn butter, pretend gold mining, weaving and more homestead activities! Half-day camp available for ages 4 and up, from 9 am – noon. Full day is available for children ages 7 and up, and is 9 am – 3 pm.

Camp Fun

Masked Up Monday Mornings is a weekly session that runs from 10am-12pm. Everyone in the museum will be required to wear a mask, to ensure the safety of visitors, and those who are medically fragile. Children under three, who are not able to mask, will not be able to attend this session. These sessions are made possible by generous support from the Nysether Family Foundation and the Skagit Community Foundation.

● United General Hospital Dist 304 will be offering a 7 classes (July 7, 14, 21, 28, August 3, 10,17)
of the Strengthening Families Program for Parents and Youth Ages 10-14 (SFP10-14). This cohort will be held at the Burlington Senior/Community Center beginning July 7 and is open to all Skagit County families with children ages 10-14. Learn more & register here.
United General Hospital Dist 304's LSPAN program has wonderful monthly newsletters, full of family resources! Check them out here.
Burlington Healthy Communities Coalition has been bringing together youth and adults for over 30 years to support and promote healthy environments and opportunities for all youth to gain skills and receive positive recognition in order to prevent and reduce youth substance use. The BHCC is a partnership of schools, families, and community members representing the diversity of the broader Burlington area. Visit https://burlingtonhcc.org/ to learn more.
Need help paying for childcare? The Emergency Child Care Voucher Program, supported by the Opportunity Council, might be able to help. Parents and caregivers can apply for temporary assistance to help pay for current or past due child care bills and to help alleviate financial crisis.
