JULY 2022

Newport Mesa Lodge No. 604

1401 E. 15th St. Newport Beach CA, 92663

Grand Master of Masons of California:
Most Worshipful Jeffery Wilkins

Inspector, 907th Masonic District:
Craig Reade, PM
Wor. Jamie Barr, PM
June was another month of success and brotherhood.

The degree schedule included two degrees, a Master Mason’s degree for Brother Erik Olsen and an EA degree for our newly initiated brother, Kramer Ashburn. Once again, several brothers were in attendance to usher these brothers down the path of their own Masonic journeys.

We had our annual golf outing where 10 of our beloved duffers went out and had a great time tearing up the golf course and enjoying each other’s company.

Our regular social night had a substantial turnout of brothers and friends and a good time was had by all who attended.

Our upcoming lodge calendar is even more active in July. July 3rd is the Grand Master’s Meet and Greet at Mason’s Park in Irvine. It starts at 11 and ends at 2:00 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to meet the Grand Master and others of the Grand Lodge officer corp, in a relaxed and accessible environment. This event is free to all who attend and all are welcome.

June 9th is our DeMolay chapter’s Packards and Pancakes breakfast. $10 gets you pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon, as well as a beverage. This is a wonderful and light-hearted event where the Orange County Packard Club will have their beautiful cars parked in front of and around our lodge to see and enjoy.  This is a great way to start your Saturday. So, please come out and support our youth program and talk with the owners of these beautiful cars.

July 30th will be our annual lodge Picnic, also at Mason’s Park in Irvine. This is always a well-attended and enjoyed event for the entire family of our lodge. There will be grilled food, plenty of drinks and snacks and a whole lot of friends to enjoy and play games with. We will be joined by members of several other lodges in our area, who have a long-standing history of joining us at this event. Again, this event is open to all and there is not cost to those who attend. It would be great to see a huge turnout for this always fun activity.
We will be having at least one degree this month but current circumstances do not permit me to indicate when or who, at this time. So, please keep your eyes open for the degree announcements that will follow later in the month.

The summer time is a great time for the lodge family to spend time together and benefit from the more social aspects of the lodge. I hope to see each of you at one or more of these upcoming events. As always, the more the merrier.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Jamie Barr
Worshipful Master

Happy Birthday America and Happy July Brethren and Friends.  The year is flying by, summer is here and our lodge continues to buzz with activity as it has all year long.  We recently raised Bro Olsen and initiated Brother Ashburn, congrats to both.  Our degree schedule looks to be as busy as it’s been all year.  A handful of us got together for a golf outing recently and had a great time.  I plan to schedule another one in September so anyone that missed out on the last one will get another opportunity in 2 months.  Our lodge has grown quite a bit this year and it appears to continue with that trend. Freemasonry truly does “bring together those who might otherwise remain at a perpetual distance”.  There are many things about our lodge that I am proud of and perhaps the biggest one is our ability and willingness to help each other in times of need.  I want to thank everyone who assisted in building a wheelchair ramp for Wor Schoengard before he passed as well as all the brothers that helped in emptying out a storage unit for May Asaly.  I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to assist the members of my Masonic family, it turns out that I gained as much from these efforts as those that were on the receiving end.  As I write this I am looking forward to the 4th of July weekend as I will be spending it up in Big Bear with my wife, my kids and their spouses, and the newest member of our family my grandson!  I hope you all have a great 4th of July with your loved ones and I hope you all contemplate how lucky we are to live in the United States of America.

Sincerely & Fraternally Bro Charles T. Kelly

Bro. Jeff Castellano

Brethren and Friends,

Summer is here which means we are half way through the year! The Lodge has been pumping out Degrees and continuing to grow. If you haven’t stopped by in a while I encourage you to do so and see the amazing successes we have had recently.

I was supposed to talk to you this month about our upcoming Blood Drive, but unfortunately do to staffing issues at the blood bank this month’s blood drive has been cancelled. If you were planning on coming down and donating or assisting the event in any way I encourage you to find a another avenue this month to donate your time. Charity is one of the most important virtues we have and live by as Masons. Helping a  Brother or donating time in your community are the  actions that truly define us as Masons. The 1st Degree even tells us that we are supposed to devote up to 8 hours of each day towards the help of a Brother in need. It can be as simple as checking in on someone you haven’t heard from in a while or volunteering with an organization you may have been wanting to work with. How ever little or big, I encourage you to put whatever time and effort you were planning on doing for the Blood Drive into another charitable avenue this month. Let’s show everyone the good that we as Masons can do.

Until next time,

Jeff Castellano
