Training Tuesdays from the Office of the Child's Representative (OCR) is an email bulletin for OCR attorneys and other child welfare stakeholders detailing upcoming OCR sponsored or approved training, outside training opportunities, new resources, and more!  If you have questions or a training resource that you would like to see featured in a future bulletin, please contact michellejensen@coloradochildrep.org

Reminder for OCR Contract Attorneys: 5 of the 10 annual required training hours must be from an OCR SPONSORED training. 2 of the 10 hours must be EDI training hours.

June is Reunification Month!


The OCR has partnered with ORPC and the Office of Children, Youth and Families to highlight reunification stories on a monthly basis. Please consider nominating a fellow GAL or other stakeholder who has demonstrated passion and commitment to reunifying families.

Core Competencies I: Orientation for New Attorneys

July 7-8, 2022 | OCR Sponsored | Denver
 

This Core Competencies I training is designed for new OCR attorneys, OCR attorneys with 1-3 years of experience in the practice, and non-OCR attorneys interested in GAL work. This training is required for new attorneys who will be starting a contract with OCR beginning July 1, 2022.
 
The training will cover the Role of the GAL, Requirements and Strategies of an Independent Investigation per the CJD, Child and Youth Development, Youth Engagement, Implicit Bias, Trauma, Sources of Law, Special Issues, Stages of a D&N Proceeding, Stages of a JD Proceeding, and Assessing Child Safety.

We are excited to announce our plans for fall conference, as we are thrilled to be hosting our first in-person statewide conference after two years of virtual training and the groundbreaking passage of the Right to Counsel for Youth bill that will change how we represent youth ages 12 and older in D&N cases.

The theme of the 45th National Child Welfare Law Conference is Bridging Theory to Practice: Learning & Unlearning to Drive Effective Advocacy. NACC will host the conference in a dual-format: in-person at the Baltimore Marriot Waterfront in August, and online in September.
 
This conference is "OCR approved" for up to 5 CLEs.
