Key Questions Related to the New York State Equality Amendment

Governor Kathy Hochul has called a special session of the New York State legislature to take up unfinished business left over from the legislative session. One of the matters they address is the Equality Amendment to the New York Constitution.

The Center for Gender and Sexuality Law’s ERA Project and Law, Rights, and Religion Project prepared answers to frequently asked questions about the substantive changes the Equality Amendment would make in the NY Constitution, expanding equality protections for groups not currently included in the law.
