  • 80 people incarcerated at the federal prison in Sheridan went on a hunger strike to protest inhumane conditions at the prison, including allegations that cancer patients have not received treatment for months and of a lack of medication or mental health treatment for inmates that have attempted suicide. At least six inmates have died at Sheridan since March 2020. None of the deaths were from COVID-19. The prison houses persons accused but not yet convicted of crimes. Read more from OPB here; read the News-Register's reporting here.

In an interview with the Newberg Graphic, Clerk Van Bergen dismissed allegations of voter fraud lodged by some and reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Oregon election system. Read the story here.
  • The News-Register reported on the mass exodus of teachers and administrators from the Newberg School District. "Principals of six out of the district’s 10 schools have resigned, along with the assistant superintendent, the district secretary, the director of Institutional Technology, and the director of human resources and finance." Read the story here.

Progressive Yamhill is a non-partisan group with a regional focus on Yamhill County politics at the city, county, and state level, as well as a vehicle to connect with neighbors on issues and actions at a federal level.  Our goal is to connect, educate, inform, and actively participate in the creation of a local community that shares and supports our mission.  You can learn more about our origin, and our group, at our website.

Our growing Facebook Group is 'Private', meaning that unless you are in the group, you cannot search for it, see anything anyone posts in it, or even find out who else is a member.  We take our members privacy seriously and have a team of moderators who vet every new member before adding them.  In order to enable new members to find us, and to communicate key events to the public, we also have a public Facebook Page.  If you would like to join, and the first link didn't work for you, use the second link and follow the instructions to let us know!
