Update

Dear <<First Name>>,

Landcare Week in early August was an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the work of the many Landcare groups and hundreds of dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers who comprise the Ovens Landcare Network. The photos of National Tree Day below are a great example of these efforts, well done everyone. Remember to enjoy watching nature prepare for its spring flourish.

National Tree Day

The last weekend of July was the official National Tree Day with a number of groups getting out and planting thousands of plants across our area. Congratulations to these groups and keep your eye out for more planting events over the next couple of weeks.
If you've got plant orders through your local group now is the perfect time to get planting, and it's also a good time to plan for next years tree planting season and get any orders in with nurseries to guarantee supply. On our website we have a list of local nurseries that supply local, indigenous tubestock and you can also find the planting guides for our area. Feel free to contact your Landcare group or local facilitator if you need a hand figuring out what you should plant.

Carbon for Sale

Soil carbon

Wednesday 24th August | 7pm - 9pm
Boorhaman

Following the Boorhaman and District Landcare Group's AGM Dr Cassandra Schefe will break down each aspect of soil carbon, trading and supply chain GHG emission reporting, for farmers to understand the principles for on-farm decision making.
There is a strong focus on soil carbon at present, and the perceived value of carbon trading. There is also increasing pressure (or incentives) for farmers to demonstrate ‘carbon neutrality’ or a negative carbon footprint in order to sell commodities into various markets. This means that rather than sell these credits to third parties, it may become attractive to farmers to retain these to offset their own system emissions.

All welcome. For more information please contact Kerrie Warburton landcare.kerrie@gmail.com or 0418 427 730
